Visited for Thanksgiving with high hopes. Reservation was for 2:45pm, and not seated until 3:15pm. Once seated, the drink order was not taken for almost 10 minutes, and getting coffee refills after that was like pulling teeth. Trisha (the server) was pleasant enough, but seemed overloaded or distracted covering 3 tables. The Popovers were lovely on the outside, but very doughy on the inside, and appeared to be undercooked. Left most of it on the plate, and the waitress Trisha never asked why. Had requested the prime rib to be medium well, and it arrived very pink, and oozing some blood. After finally being able to get Trisha’s attention, she took it back to the kitchen, and returned with a much more desirable piece. Finally came to the dessert, which was a choice of pumpkin or Apple pie. They were sugary as if store-bought, and ended the meal with disappointment. For the cost of $124 with tip, we stepped away feeling we had not gotten our money’s worth, and would not plan on returning. I hope other patrons had a different experience, and stepped away satisfied.

I haven’t been here in years as I live out of town. We had a get together with our high school ladies from Sibley/Two Rivers. We had a choice of entrees. I had the salmon with lemon butter. The popover is the best! The price was reasonable and considering the size of the group service was attentive and efficient. It is evident why this restaurant has been around so long.

Slow, inattentive, and apathetic service. Patrick had no sense of urgency, didn’t know what the restaurant had sold out of(informating us of an appetizer 86 after the order had been in for 20 minutes, let me know my 1 choice was gone after a 1/2 hour and then my 2nd choice gone too), and did not have a sense of timing for the meal,(soup with the entry come on you have to be better than that!) which is odd since we were in the restaurant for hours. The general manager lacked the ability to see his server needed help, and I talked to him and had a litney of excuses. I am sadden it see the hands one of the great supper clubs has been entrusted to.

First time here. Came in for the with my family for Mother’s Day Dinner Buffet.
Our server Mitchell was amazing!! He was very attentive! All the staff were on point & very friendly.
The food was well seasoned & looked beautiful!
The whole time we were there, we didn’t feel rushed nor did it feel chaotic. Very well organized! My Mother loved it!

In town for a conference and can’t find anything to eat around the hotel. I googled restaurants around the hotel and found this place. Come here and give it a try. Don’t let the outside appearance of the restaurant fool you. The host and waitress are amicable. The setting and atmosphere are perfect. The food is excellent, but my steak lacks flavor. I took a star away for the taste.

A traditional supper club atmosphere in historic Mendota. The seating consists of the high back black leather with some wrap around booths and dimly lit dining room. Outdoor seating is available also. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered steak bites consisting of pieces of filet mignon. They were prepared well but were over-seasoned. The walleye was anicely portioned fillet that was very well cooked.

Just want to give everyone a fair warning. This place does not cook their salmon. They do not inform you when you are ordering they do not post it anywhere on the menu that the salmon will be raw in the center intentionally. My husband’s steak was good, they did everything really well on presentation and atmosphere. When I brought the raw salmon up to the waitress they said they would take off my soda which was more than fair. I did eat most of my salmon, again it was raw in the center.

A wonderful supper club dining experience at Axel’s. We fish fried on Friday 8 July and really enjoyed the well-prepared walleye and shrimp platter. The portions were spot-on and appreciated by us hungry travelers…Service was top notch. Well done Axel’s! We highly recommend and will be back next time we’re in the Mendota, MN area!

Here’s the deal with Axel’s. I mean I get it, it’s a supper club type steak joint that’s a classy but not classy enough to keep it from having a booth at the State Fair. Nice but not too nice. Good food but not amazing food. What you expect.
FOOD WISE the PRIME RIB is seasoned exceptionally well and is served beautifully. The POPOVERS always but the entire table in a good mood. STEAKS are nicely prepared. Most SEAFOOD is fine, though the one huge fish stew dish gets raves. AU GRATIN is a miss for me, just chunks of potatoes with melted cheese. Desserts were mixed, we liked the bailey’s cake best.
Super fun with family. Great for kids because everyone can draw on table. All in all not bad at all.
