But back to the food: the portions didn’t feel “happy-hour sized,” which arguably puts them ahead in the game. I ordered a mix of tacos, the Mac and Queso (yes, that’s the actual name. Yes, it made me giggle more than it should’ve.), and a margarita pitcher.
Let’s start with the Mac and Queso: rich, cheesy, stringy in all the right ways. Cavatappi noodles, crispy baked cheese on top. The dish does thicken if you let it sit; but honestly, that’s the fate of all respectable mac and cheeses, so I’m not holding that against them. Flavor-wise, it was good, but I wouldn’t have minded a little extra depth or seasoning.
The tacos were solid. The shrimp could’ve used a bit more char, and the steak needed more seasoning to really shine. At this point I’m nitpicking. Everything was cooked well, fresh, and generously filled. Ask for their hot sauce if you expect a kick with your tacos. We opted for flour tortillas over corn and were happy with that choice.
The real winner? The margarita pitcher. The bartender offered to mix mango with jalapeño, and it ended up being the perfect suggestion. The mango alone leaned sweet, but the jalapeño cut right through and balanced it out beautifully. Also important: it wasn’t watery, which I have experienced far too often with happy-hour pitchers.
Service was excellent. Our bartender was friendly, attentive without hovering, and had great energy overall. Between the atmosphere, service, and the value for the price, the entire experience felt like a win.
Final verdict: for happy hour pricing, this place is a great deal and absolutely worth stopping in for: 7.84/10.
Taco Tuesday is a busy night with $5 Tacos. Their tacos are a must – I had the blackened shrimp with avocado and the Chicken Tortilla Soup. Delicious!
Lots of selections to choose from on the cocktail menu with a variety of different type of margaritas. The servers are very friendly and the manager checks in with each table to make sure everything is great.
Definitely a spot I will be coming back to. If you are in the area and craving modern Mexican with great ambiance, Avocado Cantina is a win.
We came in with a group of 10 for my sister’s birthday, and from the start the service was chaotic. Our server did not know how to manage a table this size at all. Orders were wrong, and even after clearly explaining who was on which check, the bills were still itemized incorrectly. Repeated mistakes that should not have happened.
The most unacceptable issue: my son ordered a $40 fajita entrée. He stepped away briefly to use the restroom, and when he returned, his entire plate had been taken away without asking. After asking it back they said they threw it away. No replacement. No refund. No discount. Nothing. Completely the restaurant’s fault, and they took zero responsibility.
There was also no manager on site to address these problems, which speaks volumes about how this place is run. We were left dealing with a bad situation with no authority available to fix anything.
They charged $16 for a birthday slice (which isn’t the issue), but despite knowing we were celebrating a birthday, there was no effort at all—no singing, no acknowledgment, nothing. The entire experience felt careless and poorly managed.
If you’re looking for a restaurant for a group, a celebration, or even basic competent service, do not come here. This place is unorganized, unprofessional, and not worth the money or the frustration
