Aux Merveilleux de Fred a.k.a. Marvelous By Fred, the beloved French pâtisserie, has opened its new flagship location in New York City at 1001 6th Avenue in June 2021. The shop features its famous Merveilleux alongside other sought-after French pastries and sandwiches. All are prepared in-house daily in an open bakery environment, where guests can enjoy watching the pâtissiers at work. The flagship joins the West Village location as the second storefront in Manhattan, the third location in North America, and 46th location worldwide.

Tucked away like a little fairy-tale bakery, Aux Merveilleux de Fred instantly feels like you’ve stepped into Paris. The glass window lets you watch the bakers handcraft each gâteau in real time — so elegant and mesmerizing to see. I tried their classic Merveilleux and it was incredibly light, airy, and cloud-like with just the right sweetness. Service was warm and welcoming, and the whole shop smells like butter, sugar, and happiness. Perfect for a coffee break, a French-style breakfast, or to pick up something delicate for hosting.

A tiny, cozy spot to get French sweet delights in the Village. The lady at the front was wonderful! Warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully guiding us through the patisserie options with love and care. Sending her a hello from Boston! (even caught her in the video)
Every meringue flavor was excellent. They offer a special chestnut flavor exclusively for the holidays. The meringues are airy, delicate, and elegantly crafted. All made fresh in-house. They’re also quite perishable and don’t last long without refrigeration, something to keep in mind if you’re buying them as a gift.
This location is for take-out only, much smaller than their 6th Av shop, which offers a wider selection of treats and is currently selling Bûche de Noël. Visit, you’ll love it!

Heading to the Guggenheim Museum. We ordered two latte’s and a milk bread roll. Tasty and a good cup of coffee. They have beautiful mini meringue cakes that would be amazing to bring to a holiday party. $3.50 each. The large swirly meringues are gorgeous and are priced the same. Happy to have found this spot. The chandelier is stunning. Or maybe a more appropriate description would be “Wonderful!” Just like their pastries, and Fred!

Super cute French cafe! We got a smoked salmon toast, a chocolate croissant and a raisin pudding cake. It was all yummy a d went well with our coffees. Love the giant chandelier and the vibe of the place. It’s a cute little quiet spot in the noise of the city.

I loved my visit to Aux Merveilleux de Fred—the atmosphere was elegant yet inviting, and the pastries were absolutely delightful. The merveilleux were light, airy, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. Their meringue was especially outstanding—delicate, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth soft. I also enjoyed the cramique, a buttery brioche that paired beautifully with coffee. If you’re looking for an authentic French pastry experience, this spot is a must-visit!

The raisin pudding was burnt unlike the midtown store. If you over cook something you should toss it not try or sell it. Not good at all very bitter.
