Katie is a great server! So nice and attentive. The drinks and food were also great! We got the black lager – so good, pretzel (with a beer cheese that was to die for), beet salad with dressing that I want to know the recipe – it was that good, and the bratwurst plate with käsespätzle instead of mashed potatoes (which I highly recommend doing)!! And for dessert we got the apple strudel which was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Make a reservation and come here, you will definitely enjoy it.

We made a reservation, which I recommend during peak season. We had a group of 7 and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the soup and a beet salad. Both we’re excellent and made with very fresh ingredients. My husband had the salmon, grilled. He loved it. Prices are high in Mammoth, so this place is no different. But, the high quality food and service make it worth it.

Tasty food, welcoming service, big food selection, especially if you are a meat lover.
And don’t forget to try the strudel. It was truly amazing, cooked with real fruits, not super sweet, just what you need after a long day on the slope.

Four paws up for Austria Hof

We grabbed seats at the bar for dinner and were welcomed right away. Cozy vibe, easygoing energy, exactly what we were after.

The food was a hit: Hungarian beef goulash, Jägerschnitzel, and an apple strudel to finish. Comfort food done right.

A fun, relaxed spot with great food. We’d happily come back.

Be careful! This restaurant automatically adds an 18% gratuity. This was NOT mentioned when ordering and was NOT on the menu (it only states that gratuity applies for parties of 7 or more, which we were not). When you sign the check, they prompt you to add a tip again, trying to squeeze an extra 20% from their guests. They also added a credit card surcharge, again without informing us beforehand. I felt scammed.

I believe this not legal – I’ll consider reporting this to the California Attorney General.

After realizing this, we went back to the restaurant and asked for the gratuity to be removed, which they did.

The dining room is cozy, and the food was okay. The sides were good, the Apfelstrudel was great, but the schnitzel was very dry and nothing like the schnitzel you get in Germany or Austria.

The food was just okay. I’ve had better dishes elsewhere. They Jagerschnitzel’s gravy was really thin. The schnitzel were really thin. I think the best part of the sampler platter was the potato pancakes.

We had a quiet dinner at this charming restaurant which serves typical German cuisine in Mammoth town.
The ambience is nice and warm and the service was excellent. We ordered sausages, venision ribs and goulash along with drinks. The sausages and venision was typical German cuisine and well made, however the goulash was not quite at par with the goulash one experiences in Europe.

Bar review. Fantastic service. Good drinks. Limited bar menu. Wedge salad was excellent. Stay away from the pizza. Would be nice to have more “traditional” bar food avail ie Burger, Wings, Tendies, etc. Throw on some ski racing or films vs replays of last weeks football

1 Star for service – it starts and ends with the rude hostess with an attitude
We came on Christmas Eve during a snow storm where we had to pivot from original plans and decided to dine in where we were staying. We called and they told us 7:30. We showed at 7:40 and this hostess sticks up her nose and says we were booked for 7:15 and then cancelled as a no show. We politely explain our situation and ask if they have availability (over half the tables are empty). She makes it obvious she’s annoyed and tells us to wait a few minutes while she checks. Thankfully we overhear another server tell her our original table is still ready to go, but she can move us to a nicer booth.

The same hostess shows us to our table and she nearly throws the menus down onto the middle of table. We’ve all seen it happen. The attitude at this point is very noticeable. Seems like she wants us to apologize for inconveniencing her.

During our dinner, most of the time we can hear the same hostess loudly clearing and setting tables around us. I mean very egregiously banging glasses and utensils down onto the tables with clanking that disrupts the otherwise pleasant ambiance. Meanwhile we see other servers and hosts are very pleasant and approachable with their tables. Israel who actually took our orders and waited on us was very pleasant.

The food came out pretty slow but was decent. It got the job done for a hearty meal on a cold night. We ordered the prime rib special which was tasty but completely cold. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly but flavor of sauce just didn’t totally match. And fettuccine Alfredo w grilled chicken might’ve been the highlight. Dessert cheesecake was wacky and dry, felt obviously out of the freezer. Also 2 cocktails and a beer. check was about $220 for 3 people and we just read someone else’s review afterwards that they include 18% gratuity already without telling you. We didn’t look closely and did tip on top of that.

The last cherry on top of it all — I was standing in the hallway while my partner was in the kitchen pass with Israel settling the bill over Apple Pay and the same hostess rushes by behind me and EGREGIOUSLY shoulder checks me while shouting ‘excuse me’ and dashing off. No apologies or hesitations for nearly bumping me off my balance so I know it was intentional. If I weren’t so stunned in that moment I would’ve called her out and I regret not doing so.

I really hope their staff see this review and consider a much needed write up if not an employee training in basic hospitality and etiquette. The people in my life work in the industry and we know that regardless of a bad day or working on a holiday you don’t bring your BS to work, and it should go without saying that you never take it out on customers. Frankly baffling, childish, and unacceptable behavior, making us feel unwelcome in the beginning and being straight up aggressive in the end. Will not be coming back and cannot recommend.

I’m so happy my husband booked this place for my birthday this year! The service here is the best I would say. She’s so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The foods are nice, we enjoyed everything! Especially the elk steak, I really love how it cooks, the sauce is amazing. Also thank you so much for the birthday cake, it’s an apple strudel, so delicious! I will recommend this restaurant for sure!
