When I’m eating alone, I like sitting at the bar, and this one had 40 beers on tap (including my favorite, Wicked Weed Pernicious). A full menu is available at the bar with selections of appetizers, salads, burgers and sandwiches, pastas, entrees and desserts. They also have about 15 sides to choose from; most dishes come with one or two sides. I opted for the fish and chips with a side of cole slaw. The fish was really crispy, with a panko crust, and the potato rounds were actually more tasty than I expected. The only low point was the cole slaw, which wasn’t bad, but was flecked with pineapple, which in my opinion isn’t a great addition to slaw.
Aubrey’s has some good daily specials, such as the Monday burger and brew special, which can save $5 or more off the price of ordering separately.
All in all, Aubrey’s is a pleasant place to spend an hour or so; the food is pretty good, service is fine, and beer and other alcohol selections plentiful.
After a morning hike, we took some time to freshen up and wrap up a few work tasks before heading over to the Aubrey’s in Johnson City. Though it was well past the lunch rush, we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated.
The restaurant’s interior is inviting and stylish, with a dark, neutral color palette accented by vibrant pops of yellow. Large chalkboard murals and thoughtful décor contribute to a clean, modern, yet cozy atmosphere.
Our server, Sarah R., greeted us with a cheerful smile, took our orders efficiently, and offered to bring fresh bread while we waited. Yes, please!
My husband ordered the Old Fashioned Patty Melt — a mouthwatering combo of juicy burger patty, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, and crispy bacon on Texas toast. His fries were “double-dunked” for that perfect extra crunch, just as he likes them — nearly burnt, but not quite.
I chose the Thunder Road Burger, topped with crispy tobacco onions, jalapeños, and just the right amount of their signature pimento cheese spread. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I paired it with a fully loaded baked potato — generously topped and included at no extra charge — and it exceeded expectations.
Sarah struck the perfect balance of attentiveness, checking in just enough without ever hovering. She even brought my husband two refills on his Dr. Pepper without being asked.
All I can say is this: if you haven’t tried Aubrey’s yet, consider yourself warned — it may just win you over on your first visit like it did us.
We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
The waiter was choppy and short with us the entire time, like we were an inconvenience for expecting the bare minimum: edible food and basic respect. The vibe was very much “why are you even here?”
Between the botched steak, the openly rude management, and the attitude from the staff, this place managed to turn what should’ve been a simple dinner into an embarrassing mess. Paying premium prices for fast-food-level service and hostility is wild.
Plenty of restaurants in Johnson City know how to cook a steak once and treat customers like humans. This isn’t one of them. I won’t be back—and I’d strongly recommend others spend their money literally anywhere else…
We traveled in for the Senior girls Little League softball tournament.
Aubrey’s happily sat us the first night for 15 people, and had a table ready for us when we arrived.
The 2nd night, we panicked trying to figure out where we were going to eat as a team. We called, and the managers made it happen. The women who served our tables were AMAZING and the food was GREAT! We hate that we live 5 hours away, otherwise, you would absolutely have a reoccuring team visit from us!
Thank you all!
