Specifics: Review is about a signature innovation from this spruced-up bakery.
Drawn by flyer “You Must Try” [pic] on storefront, we tried, and picked a mango tres leches for guests. Nice idea to ride on mango-everything bandwagon (mango-lassi, -milkshake, -kulfi, -rice, -mousse, -cheesecake are already out there in consumer space).
Came prepackaged in a ~12cm sq PET box, 3.5 cm high [pic]. Back home, decided to spoon out a quality assurance bite off the corner. Mango came through; middle note wasn’t ‘leches’ enough. But that was okay.
Sitting in the fridge for about an hour, translucent, watery syrup collected in the hole. Sampling the rather thin sponge cake layer (half the >4cm height we’re accustomed to), we sensed it was soaked in syrup; not any of three milk versions one would associate with tres leches. Uncertain & deluded, we ended up not serving to guests.
Overall, was visually appealing and worth trying for a change. Guys, please call it anything other than mislabelled tres leches. Or get your recipe right.
Bottom line: Proclaimed egg-free, Atul is a welcome addition to vegan food scene. With 6+ outlets on the East Coast, and expanding, they must surely be doing things right. The place is welcoming, jolly good staff, seating for ~20 with space for more. On that note, we’ll be back to sample other stuff; and then re-calibrate.
The owners were warm and humble, enthusiastically discussing their menu, which includes sandwiches, Vada Pav, and other Indian snacks. We’re impressed by their expertise in blending traditional Indian flavors with baked goods and shakes.
The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is friendly. We’re thrilled to see BelRose, an Asian Indian market, expanding on Hillside Avenue in Queens. Can’t wait to visit again and try more of their delicious offerings!”
We ordered vada pav which was great in taste, little spicy but you can make adjustment before placing an order. Veggie pizza was good as well, the crust, cheese Veggies all toasted well. Also you can get swaminarayan as well.
I would suggest to get Dabeli and vada pav jain and swaminarayan which would help to get more customers since surrounding restaurants have all options.
They have so many cake and pastries which you get as well. Definitely planning to go back and try more items.
