Good To Be Here! Serving Pittsburghers since 1930. Whether you’re enjoying our food at our restaurant, at home, or at a wedding — Atria’s makes it Good to Be Here. Atria’s History The original Atria’s in Mt. Lebanon was owned by Italian immigrant Joe Atria and dates to 1930. It began as a grocery store, then expanded into a barbershop and dry cleaners. In 1933 prohibition ended and Atria’s began to sell beer. Along came food to feed the hungry — both highbrow attorneys and blue-collar working men alike. In 1998, Pittsburgh natives Pat and Nancy McDonnell transformed Joe Atria’s historical Mt. Lebanon landmark into an upscale casual restaurant that today serves up American classics in neighborhoods all around the Greater Pittsburgh Area
Steaks, seafood, Italian entrees & cocktails are the draw at this spacious, contemporary restaurant.

Food wise, I recommend the firecracker shrimp appetizer; sweet with a kick. The sherry crab bisque was very “one note” with a few lumps of crab here and there. A thicker sauce with some greens and a side of oyster crackers or dinner roll to compliment it might have elevated it a tad.
The brownie for dessert could honestly feed 4 people; no picture could do it justice. It probably could have used a second scoop of ice cream to make it more proportionate to the brownie (ice cream with every bite). I would have preferred more vegetables with the chicken picatta and less sauce but the flavor was great nonetheless.
Good place to go to impress.
And I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
It was a unique experience having a suited young man open the door for me, walk attend the seating, and walk me to my seat. Definitely fancier than I’m used to, but it never came off as uncomfortable.
My server was a delight. I actually misspoke during my getting an appetizer, but probably ended up with something better than I intended to. I mentioned it to her, and there was every bit of concern and relief on her part. Really, it was me who lucked out, though knowing they would have corrected it if I wanted was a heartwarming touch.
Additionally, the seasonal menu showed them flaunting their stuff in a unique way. The standard menu seems pretty par for the course for prestigious Italian-American, with nothing too terribly signature off of the drinks menu. Having had the opportunity to try out their stuff with these options was a memorable time. So, the food definitely earned its five stars.
Lastly, the mule I had was a first, and thoroughly enjoyed. Coming in the oft talked about copper cop like Mules should, I wasn’t sure if it was perfectly authentic, but it tasted great, so I was very happy with it.
And dessert was lovely. I never had Black Forest Cake before, but I’m very glad I had it here.
All in all, a very great time. I may not be back very often, but I’m glad to say they’ll definitely bein the running for when I am looking for that fancier bite.
The renovations look outstanding and the food was the same high quality. However, the service and management of the restaurant was sub par. We had reservations for four at 7:15, but were unable to be seated along with several families as the dishwasher fell behind in making sure there was enough clean utensils.
After being seated at 7:35, we placed our orders but then started to notice tables that sat after us and then departed while we were still waiting on our meal. From ordering at 7:50 to having our food arrive 8:45, we had to ask to get our soup just to have something to eat.
Our son ordered a medium rare hamburger which arrived rare. The center was still red and not warm, so we scraped it out. My daughter and I shared a delicious filet that was perfectly cooked. Our family also shared the chicken tortilla soup which was delicious.
When our food arrived, the server then informed us that my wife’s rib order was not coming because they ran out of ribs. As it was not reasonable to wait any longer, she just ate fries and coleslaw. We didn’t quite appreciate being ‘educated’ on what medium rare means and that the server should have explained it. We order all beef medium rare everywhere and the center was uncooked and not warm.
Our server was well dressed and courteous as well as the rest of the staff; however, we were never checked on for drink refills while we spent a total of 100 minutes at the table. In fact the wrong food was delivered to our table and later the wrong bill. The manager stopped by and was as apologetic as the server and removed my wife’s meal and son’s burger from the bill. I still left a 15% tip but while reading my own review, I am questioning if that was even too much.
I should note that spending so much time in the restaurant gave us the opportunity see the place in action:
• Well dressed and courteous staff (a plus).
• Inefficient reservation system being handled by two very nice but inexperienced hosts.
• Lighting was getting turned on and off randomly (potential electrical failure).
• Wash racks for bar glasses being placed on the floor and pushed into the bar area.
• Well decorated and ‘lighter’ environment than Atrias which was nice.
• Insufficient seating in the front area to handle a backlog of unseated guests.
• Food quality was outstanding, but I’m not convinced the filet with no sides was worth $38. Perhaps is should come with sides.
• Quick compensation and adjustment to the bill for errors (very nice).
• Very poor stock tracking resulting in lack of ribs and being notified when the rest of the table received cooked food. This should have been identified earlier by the kitchen staff with options for us. Especially since we waited over 1 hour for the food after ordering. There was plenty of time.
I should also note that the restaurant was extremely loud; sports bar level noise with no ability to talk at the table (we were seated right next to the bar).
We might come back for a lunch as a second chance, but his was a disappointing first time visit. Too bad for the Jefferson Hills / Pleasant Hills restaurant scene.
Burger was a frozen patty, Giant eagle has better frozen burgers that taste much better. The price of their food compared to the quality is so off. At least I gave it 3 tries and now I know I won’t be back. Also, make sure you click on the newest reviews. All of Atrias reviews from over the years are included which is why they have a 4.4
Since becoming Juniper Grill it’s probably a 2.4
I have also tried to reach out about this issue using multiple channels to see if they could give assurance of making it right/not happening for others. Haven’t heard any response, so sharing here as a caution for anyone ordering take-out!
