If you’re looking for a fun, laid-back spot in Ketchikan, you have to stop at The Asylum. Carlos, the owner, is one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet—he immediately made us feel welcome like old friends. The vibe is quirky, comfortable, and exactly what you want after a day of exploring.

Their signature duck fart shots were not only a must-try but surprisingly delicious (don’t let the name fool you ). We loved them so much they became a highlight of our trip.

And for a perfect food pairing? A few steps over to Burger Queen—hands down one of the best burgers I’ve had in ages (order at the bar). Juicy, flavorful, and everything you want in a no-frills burger joint.

Between Carlos’ hospitality, the great drinks, and the unbeatable burgers, this stop was an absolute win. If you’re in Ketchikan, don’t miss it!

Great service and selection of local beer on draft. The price for a draft beer was great, $3.50, per glass. Nice little place close to the dock. Wife said the onion rings were good. Had great service from the bartender Kellie, she was awesome. Also talked to Carlos and he was funny and energetic. Great small little place, a must go.

Great find!! I got the Asylum beer. It’s in the pictures. It’s a grapefruit IPA. I know, doesn’t sound appealing. But it’s a great beer made locally. The bartender gave me half a pint just to see if I liked it. My wife got the 49t state beer. Which was a blonde eagle ale. There was music in the background. We could still have a casual conversation with the music. There is an upstairs with a pool table and foosball. There is a covered patio upstairs with a view of the port. For two beers it was $7. Best deal you’ll find anywhere.

Stopped here for a beer on a rainy day and my cruise excursion got rained out. Very friendly place with many local beers on tap. Right on the water if you aren’t in Ward Cove on a Norwegian cruise. The bar across the street was on the water but the staff was cold and indifferent so I went across the street to Asylum. Tried out the Maya’s Spruce Tip IPA and Wolfpack pilsner. High ceilings, lots of TVs. I bet it would be a great sports bar but for a cruise crowd that probably doesn’t matter. They made a custom drink for the guy next to me. Prices are great. Carlos from Brooklyn (who isn’t in witness protection, stop asking!) and Kellie are super nice and friendly. Great place to hang out and get a beer on a rainy day.

A must visit, they have great Alaskan beers and the best atmosphere; $3.50 local and all drafts, support local business and long live the Republic (Ask for Kellie ‍♀️)

Carlos and crew are crushing it here! Don’t let the name scare you, this is a friendly bunch of good people with kind hearts. I made the Asylum my local watering hole for my week long stay in Ketchikan and the charm of this place was not lost on me. I was greeted with a duck fart shot and lots of laughs and good conversations upon my arrival and wasn’t ever really ready to leave.

Great beer selection at great prices in a fun-filled environment. The building is two stories with outdoor seating on both levels, great for those warmer summer days. Food is ordered from Burger Queen next door, don’t sleep on that opportunity; great charbroiled burgers, awesome onion rings, and more friendly neighbors to support. 10/10 would recommend.

Stopped in port for a few hours with the HAL Westerdam and decided to check this place out. Have to be honest, in 36+ years in the Air Force I’ve traveled the world and perused many bars- to include Anchorage. I felt VERY comfortable in this place, Carlos is the bomb! Great selection of bar T-Shirts as well- added one to my collection.

One of the bars we always go to when we are in Ketchikan before departing for our fishing trip. They have amazing bloody Mary’s, make it a double, Golden Tee and home to the Duck Fart shot. Just try it at least once. They have outdoor seating are next Burger Queen. The only bad thing I have to say about this place are the gnats or “no see’ums” that fly around the bar. They are there every year I have gone.

Fantastic dive bar with a lot of options for seating. Fair prices on the drinks with a good selection. Lots of different activities to do such as darts, pool, foosball table, and an outside deck. The staff was really great and were very welcoming.

If you’re looking for a wild and quirky stop in Ketchikan, The Asylum is it!

We wandered in while exploring on a cruise stop, and let’s just say we might’ve left a little ‘mad’ for this place!

The drinks are fun, the snacks hit the spot, and the whole place has this wonderfully offbeat vibe that’s perfect for escaping reality (or joining the ‘asylum’ crew, your choice!).

The decor and atmosphere make you feel like you’ve entered a fun, slightly unhinged escape in the best way. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a good laugh, great drinks, and a one-of-a-kind experience!
