This is not a strict British tea; it’s a modern, California-inspired interpretation of afternoon tea. The ingredients and flavors are seasonal and the flatware and decor are contemporary and warm; the lobby has been renovated within the last few years and the brass accents glow.
Astra’s holiday tea always includes a little take home treat to keep the fun going, and this year they partnered with Laduree (the French macaron patisserie) so guests got macarons not just in the tea service, but also in a gift box to take home. It’s definitely a splurge, but it’s one that’s worth it! Thanks for another great holiday tea, Astra!
Beautiful interior and decor with a nice festive season touch. Flower decoration with orchids on every table. The seating space is shared with the St.Regis bar.
We came in for breakfast during our hotel stay. Busy on a saturday morning, but seated almost immediately. Welcoming, helpful and very polished staff throughout. Iced water served quickly while we chose from the breakfast menu.
Top quality, great breakfast menu. Our drink and food choices were served within minutes. Nicely plated, great flavors.
Highly recommended, for a celebration, for a breakfast / lunch / brunch / dinner, in conjunction with a stay at the St.Regis, anytime! Our only regret: we were limited in time due to a following appointment. We’ll be back!
Points and Miles tip: if staying in the hotel, you can apply the F&B credit (from destination fee)
or get a free breakfast if you have high status
At the beginning of the experience, we were placed at a booth right near the kitchen door and next to a family of 4 with small noisy children. The dining room was empty except for one couple and a solo diner. I had entered notes when I made my Restaurant Week reservation. With what the hostess gave us, I asked to move tables to the opposite wall. Thank goodness I did because the children were just too loud and distracting.
About my meal:
The starter of gem lettuce salad, cheese, slices chilis and cilantro dressing was delicious. The second course of Ora Salmon from New Zealand was off. It seemed as if the chef blow torched the salmon exterior but left it uncooked. There was quinoa, cauliflower, diced carrots and Brussels sprouts on the plate with a drizzle of melted butter. I found the salmon bland. There was no seasoning at all. Shocking!
The plate also had an odd orange color that I wasn’t sure if it was a seasoned oil or something else. Bland is not acceptable!
My companion had the Wagyu burger. Since she had just returned from Japan, she knows what Wagyu tastes like. She also is a big Wagyu beef fan. She didn’t think the burger had Wagyu. Later on that night, she had stomach pains. She told me the next day, it seemed as if the burger gave her food poisoning ☠️ .
Overall:
Ambiance is very pretty
Food was okay to bad
Service was very good except for the hostess that day.
