Asaka is a friendly neighborhood sushi bar and Japanese restaurant and I enjoyed dinner very much. They were extremely polite and courteous, very good service and food is served quickly.
The restaurant is decorated nicely and has a charming feel to it. Not overly modernized yet a modern feel. Yet also a cozy sushi bar feel. Well done!
Three of us had a couple bento boxes and a nigiri and sashimi combo. Dinner requires three item bento, and the tempura was the star. Nicely battered and fried just right. Chicken teriyaki was chicken teriyaki, if you know what I mean. The California rolls were good… they go the extra mile and mince the imitation crab as opposed to some places that just slice a little chunk. And the spicy tuna roll was not really spicy but tasty enough.
The sashimi and nigiri were very fresh and decently portioned. I prefer smaller and higher quality, which is what they served. They could go a little hotter on the wasabi. Theirs was mild.
And of course miso soup and salad with that sesame dressing I love. Fun meal, great place.

Visited again cuz we liked it so much the last time. Guess what, still love it! Karage excellent taste and crispness. Hamachi Kama grilled top perfection. Carpaccio melts in your mouth. Bento boxes are good and fill you up. The treasure box sushi was beautiful and simply delicious. Service is good.

I’ve had sushi in prestigious restaurants, make no mistake, this is quality sushi at a very reasonable price. The seafood/fish was fresh, and the ingredients were done perfectly. Even the tea was exceptional. I haven’t enjoyed a sushi this much for a while. Try it out. You won’t regret it.

We really enjoyed our food and the service was great. Somehow, I didn’t take photos. I had two vegan rolls, both were delicious. Hub had the scallop roll and chicken fried rice. He said, “give them all the stars. It was delicious.”

Loved the food, I got the prime rib steak teriyaki and the mango ice cream. Service was great and waitresses were very friendly. Atmosphere was great, I love the light fixtures. Music was a little loud, though. I’d prefer jazz or an instrumental track over lyrical music.

Went in this afternoon , small crowd. The service was excellent and the fish for sushi is exceptionally fresh. Would definitely recommend it if you are in the cute neighborhood. Clean interior too which makes it nice to dine in.

Visited this place just once and were really happy with the quality of their rolls. The fish was fresh and the ingredients were well balanced well. Their menu is pretty big so it took some time to pick different rolls (meaning with different fish) We ordered three sets for two people and all of them were pretty good. The service was fast and overall experience was nice as the neighborhood where this place located is very cute. 4/5 from me just because the place is good but not special

We had a great experience! Sushi and sashimi are very fresh and delicious. The service is fast and friendly. The tuna poke salad is the best! (It comes with soup and salad for only $13!) strongly recommend this dish. I usually loves oyster. I tried oyster with quail eggs in cold sake. To be honest I didn’t like it much. The oyster is not that great, but everything else is phenomenal. We will definitely come back for Bento and Tuna Poke. Sooooo many choices of sushi menu.

Our first visit here the day after their grand opening. Good Menu variety, particularly with vegetarian options. The price was about the same as two other Sushi restaurants in the North Berkeley neighborhood. They are open on Sundays and early! This is what separates Asaka Sushi from the others.

4 stars because we ordered a bento lunch box and the chicken teriyaki and fish teriyaki weren’t freshly cooked but rather reheatead, which is a bummer! Generally, the sushi is quite good here, although the special sushi could be quite pricey.
Parking could be a struggle if you come during the rush hours!
