Reviews
I must preface this review saying that we visited Artman’s at a less than ideal time of day (mid afternoon) and I’m sure the peak business hours would provide more favorable results since smokehouse foods are best when served fresh and hot.
That being said, the food that we ordered,(ribs and pulled pork for myself with baked beans and collard greens and chicken and pulled pork with baked beans and coleslaw for my wife) were very good but a little dry due to the time of day, which is common for most all restaurants serving smoked foods. The appetizers we ordered were the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. Both were very good!
The atmosphere was pleasant and fairly quiet, especially compared to the restaurants that have blaring music in the background. That was a plus for me.
The service was good but probably could have been a little better since, as I mentioned, it was the slower part of the day.
All in all I would definitely recommend giving Artman’s a try. I’m sure you will not be disappointed with the food during normal rush hours at lunchtime and dinner.
I will be returning at some point to give it another try.
Beef brisket – delicious
Very good sides –
Potato salad
Corn casserole
Broccoli rice casserole
Green beans
Artman’s located in Summerfield is a little jewel tucked away on Hwy 42 in Summerfield. They have limited table inside the building but they also have tables outside the building. I first tasted their food when our friends invited us over to their house. They served brisket and smoked chicken. It was delicious. So, we decided to go there not long after we tasted the food from our friends’ house. Our first experience at Artman’s was great that we decided to return and bring some friends with us.
The restaurant opened at 11:00am and we arrived a couple of minutes before they opened to make sure we were able to get a table. Understandably, the restaurant gets full very quickly because their food was that good. When the doors opened, our server told us to sit where we wanted. The restaurant was very clean inside which was the first thing I noticed. Even the bathroom was clean. I came craving ribs and that was exactly what I ordered. I ordered a half a slab of St. Louis ribs. The server said, “let me check to make sure we have ribs.” He asked the gentleman behind the counter, and was told that they only had 4 ribs left. They had not received their delivery yet. I was fine with that. For my side, I ordered coleslaw and French fries. Ordering the ribs was not a mistake. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. They have four different kinds of bbq sauce on the table. I didn’t use any. I thought the ribs were perfect just the way they were. My spouse ordered burnt ends and he loved it.
As I said, Artman’s is a Summerfield jewel. Go and try it. You won’t regret it. However, I do suggest getting there early so that you don’t have a long wait.
Plenty of parking that was super clean. Door was hard to open and I did not expect a sit down type restaurant where the waitress very cheerfully greeted me as she served people sitting at a table. I could feel myself relax in this very homey environment. I was doing take out and they had a menu right at the register. They explained that everything on the menu was made on the premises. They take credit and the tap/insert was handy to pay with a screen on the register to add a tip and choose type of receipt. Seating to wait was comfy, but internet signal was limited (no biggie). The wait was short and I was heading back out the door with the waitress once again calling out a goodbye.
I made it to my destination. I had a half slab of ribs, coleslaw, potato salad with a side of fried pickles. It also came with a side of corn bread or toast (I chose corn bread).
To say the portions are generous is an understatement. There was a sweet molasses sauce and a not hot mustard based sauce for the ribs, and ranch for the pickles. The pickles, while not still super crispy (it took more than an hour to get home), were delicious! The coleslaw and potato salad were good. The ribs were out of this world, copious meat falling off the bone, to die for. Both sauces were perfect to dip pieces of meat into. Yes, I double dipped! There was plenty for 2 to share or for a full meal the next day, including the pickles (there a HUGE basket of’em)!
I will be back for sure!
Oh, and for sit down dining, they serve some decent beers too.
Came back and STILL AWESOME!
We are in the area for 1 more week & we may be visiting again before we leave. Hands down, some of the very best ribs we have ever eaten. Our server Thomas , was so very kind & very informative about the menu. Bravo!!!
