Angelo’s Taverna

Social Profile:

Angelo’s has been a staple on Sixth Avenue since 1974. It was owned and operated by the Laveo family until March of 2013, when Craig Jones purchased the restaurant and ushered in a new chapter while honoring its roots. The old-world family recipes remained at the heart of the menu, with modern twists added along the way, like char-grilled oysters and balsamic-glazed ribs, helping shape the eclectic offerings you see today. Many years into its rebirth, Angelo’s continues to thrive in the same neighborhood, boasting one of Denver’s best happy hours and an oyster bar that moves over 7,000 oysters a week, ensuring the freshest selections from both coasts.

Casual Italian plates, oysters, and a full bar featured in homey surroundings.

I love the appetizer pork (I forget the exact name) but it’s in the picture. I would really like to go back just to get that.
The bread is super mid.
I ordered squash gnocchi and it’s a little bit oily for me.
Both the cannoli and the tiramisu are good for dessert

I love Angelo’s! I’ve celebrated my birthday here twice over the years. It’s my favorite go-to for Italian food cravings. They have a great wine selection and service is always wonderful. I’d recommend calling ahead.

You’re my first time here. I was taken by a friend. We got the oysters, personal pizza, a sausage slider and a crab cake slider. Amazing! And I had a seasonal mule drink Amazing I also learned that there is a second location closer to my house but I went to the 6th avenue location

My review is between a 3.5-4 star. The place was very busy when we went so our service was quite slow. We ordered the Vodka Penne ($18) which was not worth it at all. Two small bites were eaten from the dish before the photo was taken. The portion size was very disappointing especially for the price. I cannot recall the name of the other dish but it had duck in it. I believe it was $21. It was absolutely incredible! I gave it 4 stars as this was our first time trying it. I would definitely suggest trying this place but avoid the vodka penne.

Only other downsides were that we asked if they served bread with the dishes and the server said no so we ordered some bread. As you can tell the dishes did come with bread. No big deal but if the server was trying to upsell we’d rather they suggest buying bread because it’s so good instead of misleading us. My napkin was also very dirty and not properly washed. Again not a big deal but not the best first impression for our first time here.

That duck pasta was decadent. The limoncello cake had me hooked. Loved the lamb Popsicles. And the oysters were incredibly fresh and delicious. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, kind to our barely toddler and two parents trying to have a birthday night out. Overall their food it out of this world and we’re now big fans.

We walked in without a reservation, but the place had plenty of open tables. The hostess, though, was pretty rude—she didn’t make any effort to find us a spot and just told us to come back in 30 minutes to an hour. Honestly, the restaurant was busy but nowhere near full.

Eventually, a younger server who seemed new offered to seat us outside. We agreed, even though rain was in the forecast, since it didn’t feel too cold at the time. But sure enough, it started to drizzle and got chilly. After waiting another 20–30 minutes, I went back inside to ask about a table, and the same attentive server (not the hostess) found us one right away. She was really helpful and did her best to take care of us, which I appreciated.

That said, the food wasn’t impressive, especially considering the price. Between the poor first impression from the hostess and the average dishes, I don’t think I’ll be coming back. Service matters, and I felt like the hostess didn’t care about our experience at all.

Food was great. Always in. This time in we got a beet salad and a pizza…

My only issue with the salad was the amount of nuts on it….I wanted some, but dang, I had to pick off so many and give them to my partner. Other than that, it was fresh and flavorful.

I don’t remember the name of the pizza, but it had hatch chili’s, bacon, and hot honey…WOW, so tasty!

Service was good even with how busy it was!

Food was great and the service was also great! It’s a little loud depending on the night but if that’s your vibe then it’s perfect. The grilled oysters were incredible. Really good value for the food

one of our go to spots – delicious food, quality service every time we have been! GF pizza is delicious which is a big plus in our household. We often bring people who visit from out of town here for a reasonably prices but still delicious meal that’s not too fancy but definitely still nice. We love
