Angelique Café has been our favourite spot since the day they opened. Their Illy coffee is incredible, and their pain au chocolat and croissants are my kids’ top picks. Lately, we’ve been loving their ham-and-cheese galette.

The moment you walk in, the French music, photos, and French-speaking team make it feel like a little piece of France in Halifax. My kids get a mini French lesson every visit. The owners and staff are warm, hands-on, and truly care about creating a great experience.
Thank you, Angelique ! An absolute must-try.

Wow, what a great find! Parking is challenging, as with everywhere in this area, but worth it. The Mille Feuille was the best we have ever had, the pastry was so flaky and the pastry creme so flavorful. Great ambience… Seems busy so we were happy to have found a table. Will definitely return to try a crepe.

The food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly. We had a salmon quiche that was light and fluffy, as well as a ham sandwich. The baguette was perfect, a crunchy shell, and fluffy interior. The almond pear tart paired wonderfully with the coffee. To top it all off, the chef made us a crepe with caramel, which was warm, sweet and utterly decadent. We left feeling like satisfied gluttons. We’ll definitely be returning, 11/10 would reccomend.

The coffee and atmosphere here is great. But I’m not comfortable with the staff telling me that I’m not allowed to use laptop here.

I completely understand it’s the policy at the cafe, but that’s part of the reason people are here for. And it’s the first time in Halifax that I am told by the staff that I can’t use my laptop at a cafe, and the policy is only implemented during certain hours of a day. With my due respect, this doesn’t make any sense.

Coffee good, vibe great. But I don’t like the staff attitude and the policy. If laptops are not allowed, please clearly state this on your official website or put a notice in your store.

Thank you

Update:

Thank you for your explanation. I understand that cafés may have policies during busy hours, and I respect that. My main concern is the lack of clear information. If laptops are not allowed during certain hours, it would be helpful to clearly state this on the website or place a visible notice in the café so customers know in advance.

I also want to mention that the way this was communicated by the staff made me feel quite uncomfortable and embarrassed, especially in front of other customers. A more polite explanation would have made a big difference.

I have visited many cafés in Halifax and have never encountered this situation before, which is why it was surprising to me. In many cities, cafés are commonly places where people sit, work, or use laptops. If the space is primarily intended for dining, then the “café” label can sometimes create a different expectation for customers.

I appreciate the coffee and atmosphere, but clearer communication and a more considerate approach from staff would greatly improve the customer experience.

Thank you.

Was very disappointed with the quality of the panini. Extremely over priced, even in this economy. Pastries are good and so is the cold brew but I’m not sure what happened here. The staff were very helpful and kind when I asked for a refund and I do appreciate that very much. Otherwise, cute little cafe.

Review: Do Not Eat Here if You Want Quality Parisian Food

I had high hopes for this bakery, which always looked lovely and busy when I drove by. The decor is beautiful—light, airy, and tempting food displays. However, there was a glaring issue: it didn’t smell like a Parisian bakery at all; there was no scent of fresh baking. That should have been a sign to leave.

Having visited Paris, I was eager for a taste of authentic Parisian cuisine, but I was sorely disappointed. I question whether the owner has ever been to Paris. The person who “made” (reheated) my food clearly hasn’t, either. If I showed the sad excuse for a Croque Monsieur I received to a real Parisian chef, they would be outraged.

A proper Croque Monsieur should be made with thick slices of fresh French bread, lots of Gruyère cheese, high-quality ham, and a homemade béchamel sauce, topped with more cheese and baked to perfection. Instead, my husband and I received two pieces of thin, soggy white sandwich bread with cheap deli ham and a dreadful excuse for béchamel. It was cold, soggy, and revolting. At over $12 each, we had no choice but to throw them away since the restaurant didn’t list a phone number to voice our concerns.

The pastries were equally disappointing. I paid over $9 for a small lemon meringue pie that had little filling and a hard, thick crust that was impossible to cut with a spoon. The chocolate croissant, which I hoped would redeem the experience, was lackluster at best—overly doughy with low-quality, waxy chocolate.

In total, the meal cost nearly $60 and left me very unhappy. The baked meringues they were selling were a dull brown color instead of the shiny white they should be, and when I inquired, I was told they were overcooked and merely included them in my order for free. That’s shameful! A real Parisian would never sell such subpar items.

It’s clear the owner and chef have no regard for food quality or customer satisfaction. It makes me question who “Angelique” is and if she’s even French. If she is, it’s likely she’s more Angela than Angelique and perhaps visited Paris once. The lack of authenticity and quality suggests they are simply trying to profit from unsuspecting customers.

In conclusion, if you want genuine Parisian food, do not eat here! There’s no phone number listed for customer complaints, and the cold food from our five-minute drive home further proved it was inedible. Save your money and avoid this establishment at all costs!

What a cute spot! Looks smaller from the outside, I ordered an almond croissant and a cappuccino. Both delicious. Croissant was perfectly flaky and not greasy (and WARM) ♥️. Cappuccino was good. Service was fast! Disappointed I wasn’t hungry enough because the paninis and quiches looked goooood. Price is comparable to similar spots!

Magnifique café français! An authentic French café that you must visit. You can stop by for breakfast, lunch, or a snack – so delicious and fresh. We had the millefeuilles, chocolate croissants, and mocha for a first taste, but we will definitely be back to try more menu items and in their cute outdoor area. ☕️

Quaint little spot. I tried the Paris brest…not as good as it sounds. Had a Cappuccino that was very good but very small size. A bit pricey but so is everywhere these days.
It is worth checking this spot out and I will return to try something else because the atmosphere and the pkeasant staff.

Tried here for breakfast at 9am on a gorgeous October Saturday. Parking on Beech St wasn’t an issue. Noticed a rear ground-level patio with some picnic tables with umbrellas, as well as small two-seater tables along the side of the cafe. These look perfect for a date or anyone who just prefers some privacy/not on top of other customers. Green turf adds a cute & clean feel. When you walk in, there are lovely window seats to your immediate right. I think there are five or six window seats in total, and not teensy/flimsy chairs or stools, but deep, bowled chairs that allow an ideal eating posture (something I find lacking at many places where you are slumped over a table, generally uncomfortable, etc). So great off the bat for that. Overall, a lovely Parisian atmosphere, without being over the top. You order at the counter and they bring your order to you. Friendly service. I tried the Galette Francaise, which was delicious. Quite a good size, cooked to perfection, with mixed greens on the side (unexpected). The ham, cheese & egg were excellent proportions. My simple iced latte in a mason jar was a good match. I will definitely be back to try more menu items and perhaps sit in the rear section to see what that’s like (up a few steps, away from windows, looked like a few standard tables). Tres magnifique!
