After years of hearing about this restaurant, I finally made it into Anelya. We were seated quickly in their unique dining room. We then had the unique experience of having all our “zakusky” (appetizers) rolls on a cart for our choosing. We picked out the Bread, Trout Roe Tart, Hokkaido Herring, and the Marinated Mushrooms. By far the best item was the Trout Roe Tart which just melts in your mouth. We then finished out the night with the Mushroom Yushka and the Varenyky. All of which was really good and paired with great service. We will back back!

Came here for a birthday dinner a few weeks ago. We were looking for the honey cake, which was delicious, and were pleasantly surprised that every other item we ordered was equally tasty. This menu is so well thought out and creative, with quality ingredients and excellent flavors. On top of that, the service was spectacular and the prices were very fair for such a wonderful experience. Would recommend Anelya to anyone looking for a quality, comforting, and incredibly pleasant dinner.

I had a solo dinner at Anelya and it was amazing!

Started with the egg mayo + trout roe tart – creamy, rich, and the perfect bite to kick things off. The poltava halushki (soft, pillowy dumplings) were total comfort food , and the chilled kefir soup was so refreshing in between. The holubtsi (stuffed cabbage rolls) were tender and full of flavor – easily a highlight.

I couldn’t skip a cocktail and went for the Blind Beauty – a horseradish vodka martini . Bold, smooth, and super unique – I’d come back just for that.

Even dining solo, the vibe was cozy and welcoming. The staff made me feel totally at home. Left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

An unforgettable Ukrainian dining experience at Anelya!

From the very first moment, everything about Anelya was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere, the warm and welcoming service, and the attention to detail made us feel like we were in for something special—and it truly delivered.

The food? Simply incredible. Each dish is rooted in traditional Ukrainian cuisine but reimagined with a modern twist that makes every bite feel fresh, unique, and unforgettable. The chef has done a phenomenal job creating rich, complex flavors—layers of sweet, bitter, and sour that play beautifully together in every dish. You can tell there’s true passion and artistry behind the menu.

And let’s talk about the cocktails—they’re anything but ordinary. Each one was creative, beautifully presented, and completely unexpected. Just like the food, the drinks reflect a bold, modern take that makes the whole dining experience even more exciting.

This was hands down one of the most memorable meals I’ve had in a long time. I highly recommend Anelya to anyone looking for a truly unique culinary experience. You won’t be disappointed!

I wish I could leave perfect marks based on the excellent food and drinks, but the service before we even arrived at the restaurant was unfortunately subpar.

I initially called to make a reservation and was told that I needed to email for a party of 8-10 people. I immediately emailed the provided address and followed up after 3 days of no response – I never received a reply (and triple checked the address).

I had trouble getting ahold of anyone by phone, so I finally made a reservation for 6 on Open Table and added a note about group size. They confirmed the reservation for only 6, so I finally just called and left a message that the party was 9 people. They immediately raised the reservation to 8…not 9.

I had to keep calling until I FINALLY got someone on the phone the day before my reservation. I mentioned that I had been having issues making a reservation and received no apology.

The dinner was wonderful, and we tried almost every dish. Standouts were the pashtet, forshmak, varenky, beet salad, and krovyanka. Drinks were also excellent and we had a lovely time trying all of the infusions (easily shared amongst us all). Service was a bit stilted and awkward, but completely fine.

I’d recommend not doing the chef’s table for a large party – we spent significantly less, got exactly what we wanted, and were all stuffed (even had leftovers).

All in all, a great experience marred by confusingly poor upfront service.

Anelya is an absolute treasure. From the moment you walk in, the warmth and hospitality make you feel right at home. The food is authentic, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor—every dish tells a story. The borscht was rich and comforting, the varenyky were perfection, and the house-infused horilka added a unique touch. You can really feel the love and tradition behind every plate. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a genuine Ukrainian dining experience. Can’t wait to come back!

I had an amazing dining experience at Anelya! This was my first time trying Ukrainian food, and it completely won me over. I opted for the vegetarian tasting menu for dinner, and every dish was thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor. I was also impressed by how many vegetarian options they offer, making it a great spot for plant-based diners.

One standout was their horseradish-infused vodka – I was surprised by how much boldness they packed into just a tiny sip! But the real star of the night for me was the mushroom soup – so rich, deep, and full of umami goodness.

The ambiance was nice and casual, making for a relaxed meal, though I will say the seating wasn’t the most comfortable. That aside, the food and overall experience more than made up for it. I’ll definitely be recommending Anelya to friends and will be back for another round soon!

Glad to see there are over 400 good reasons (reviews) that Anelya has received. These high scores are well deserved. The atmosphere, service/staff and meal are all Michelin (and James Beard) worthy. Tucked in the Avondale neighborhood, if you haven’t been here, put this restaurant on your bucket visit list. Yes, the menu is highly related to Ukranian cuisine. While I’m not familiar with their cuiisne, everyhting we had (soooo many items was extraordinary. Treat yourself – you won’t. be disappointed.

A fun dining experience! Glad we tried it, based on word of mouth and this restaurant being tied to Michelin star rated Parachute down the block on Elston, I knew I was in for a treat.

Menu was a nice sampling of traditional Ukrainian dishes, simple and flavorful. The appetizers and entrees, well all of the dishes were super small portions for the price. I would say to go in expecting that and then you won’t be disappointed. Service was just ok, appetizers felt rushed. Our server encouraged us to order more entrees after we just ordered dumplings and the sauerkraut with sausage, claiming “it takes a long time for entrees to be prepared” we said we were good and literally a minute later our food came out. For two people, and we just drank water.. it was $124. That’s a bit pricey for what it is. Food was delicious, ambience, plants and lighting is really cozy and unique. Overall, I’m surprised by all the 5 star ratings.
