For a holiday lunch, we experienced a quiet and relaxing ambience. Service was timely and pleasant, and establishment was clean.

Our food came out in a timely manner, portions were big, and each curry came with its own rice. Our favorite appetizer was the batata dahi puri, as it was sweet and spicy, with a balanced medley of flavors. The bhel leaned more sweet, but with some yogurt felt perfect. The curries were great, with the malai kofta being sweeter and Chana masala being spicy. For breads, we had the garlic naan and (delicious!!!) chili cheese kulcha.

Overall, good experience and I would recommend for a casual Indian lunch or dinner.

Mostly eat plant-based and this place is amazing. Truly addicted to their Mulugu-Tanni soup here it is absolute perfection. It might be my favorite soup ever. And their baingan bhartha is incredible. I get their food delivered and it always comes fast and delicious.

Highly recommend their weekday lunch specials! Such a great deal. It comes with a lot of rice, naan and appetizers.
Their lamb vindaloo is genuinely spicy.

My wife & I have been to Anar four times now. We go every time we come to NY. The service has always been great & the food is always on point. I have nothing but great things to say about this place & I HIGHLY recommend it. We went today to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary & we left happy, as we always do. We went when they first reopened at 5 & had the place to ourselves for a while, which was nice. Keep supporting this business.

I’m from Seattle, and now I’m in New York. Let me tell you. This is the pinnacle of Indian food, and the dishes they serve you with are a + here. 5 stars. Seasoned perfectly and feels like a Michelin experience. This is the only Indian spot I’m coming back to.

4.4 stars. Solid choice for casual dining on Friday evening, esp if you haven’t made a reservation. Large portions. Our party of 4 arrived around 7:20pm with 2 bottles of wine (it’s a BYO) and was seated right away. We ordered 1 samosa, 2 orders of papadum, tandoori chicken, veg korma, coconut chicken curry, chicken saag & garlic naan (plentiful rice was included). The food was tasty enough (hard to really tell as we had to order lower than normal spicy due to a child dining with us). We were surprisingly stuffed – the portion are larger than most Indian restaurants and we actually did not finish some of the food. The prices are competitive but considering the other aspects, I would definitely return. Mar 2014. Update Feb 2025: back for their set lunch, which includes some curries with veg of the day, lentil, rice and naan. Good and filling.

The baingan bharta curry (smoked eggplant) was delightful and full of flavors with right amount of spices served with fluffy basmati rice on the side. The garlic naan was hot and crispy and held together when coupled with curry & rice. Vegetable samosa was perfectly fried and the sauces were light and tangy. My friend ordered a soup and lamb saag and shared positive reviews. Attentive and friendly service. We arrived at 5:30pm and the place filled up quickly. Would definitely come back when in the area!

Both delivery and dine-in experiences were extremely good! food and service, thumbs up We were able to taste the freshness of the food, we could tell, food is fresh made! and the ingredients are also very fresh! juicy but not soggy, tasty but not dry, crispy but not bland. So far, best Indian food in town.

Just had an absolutely delicious lunch at Anar. Plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and meat options for whatever your diet preference may be. My 7-year old daughter got a mango lassi, we shared vegan pakoras (very tasty with spinach, onion, potato and lots of warm spices), she had a chicken tika tali lunch and I had Chana saag. I can’t speak to the chicken (she liked it) but the chana saag was very tasty and a perfect texture (not soupy or watered down and the chick peas were nice and firm). The tali lunch specials come with a generous portion of basmati rice, delicious yellow dal (nice and garlicky), a delicious mixed vegetable (carrots, peas, green beans, and lots of vibrant spices), and warm naan. The naan contains dairy (eggs and milk in the batter) so I didn’t eat that but it smelled great and was warm and fluffy. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoyed Indian food or simply flavorful food in general. They made the chicken tiki very mild and my daughter said it wasn’t spicy at all!
