I discovered Ami’s bagel shop on East Main Street in Waterbury, CT. about 10 years ago when I worker nearby. What an amazing treat they are. Always soft, doughy and fresh. I often bring a dozen home for my family. Sometimes they are still warm when I arrive home. So fresh and delicious. They are one of my favorite things of all time to eat. I no longer work in that area but I did discover they have a branch on Thomaston Ave . Also in Waterbury but closer to my home. Initially I was thrilled to have Ami’s so closeby. Unfortunately the Thomaston Ave Ami’s bagel shop is a poor comparison. I still have not been able to get a freshly made bagel. Every bagel I have gotten there has been on the hard , dry, stale side. Never soft and doughy. I will not make any more attempts. They are always a disappointment. I don’t understand why the 2 shops have the same name when their products are definitely not same quality. I’m wondering if the owner of Ami’s chain monitors each location for quality and reputation ? If not , please do.

They lost a customer for life. The bagels are great, but the service is god awful. The staff makes you feel like an inconvenience. This morning I decided I would call ahead to minimize my interaction with them. Spent 15 mins trying to call and no one ever answered the phone. Based on previous reviews, I can tell this is an ongoing issue. I won’t waste my time or money here anymore.

The bagels are great, but the service is god awful. The staff makes you feel like they don’t care, they refuse to answer the phone for call ahead, would recommend just going elsewhere

Ami’s is THE PLACE for fresh authentic bagels. Slightly crisp outside and buttery soft on the inside. Made the traditional way – boiled then finished in the oven. Too many flavors to list. The salt bagels with scallion cream cheese are out of this world delicious. They also offer breakfast sandwiches and coffee. At least a half dozen flavors of cream cheese are available too.

This is not a place I would sit down at and have my sandwich or bagel. Plenty of people do. It is very plain . That is why the three stars it’s not a 3 star eat in place . Their bagels are the best around in the area. This includes all towns bordering Waterbury. That is saying something. I live out of town and come here to get the best bagels I have been coming here even to to there first location in the colonial plaza in Waterbury.

The sandwiches are good but there was a hair in the tub of cream cheese in the fridge when I visited today. When i gave it to the lady to take care of the matter, she did not apologize or say anything to me. I give it a 1 star for sanitizing. I recommend wearing hair-nets. This is not okay! Beware and look at your food before you eat it.

Honestly speaking, there wasn’t a menu anywhere that I could view prior to going to this bagel shop which was a turn off. When I arrived to Ami’s there really wasn’t much interaction with the customer, unless I went at an off peak time. There wasn’t much of a warm greeting upon entering either. While I’ve had better bagels and service what absolutely turned me off was when a teenage boy rang up my order and when I received my change back out of the 83 cents that was owed to me, I got back 80 cents. It took him a few minutes to produce my change as though he was remembering to keep the 3 pennies. Although it might not seem like a huge deal, if you take 3 pennies from 100 customers daily and you do that for 365 days, you do the math. Bad business practice that I strongly disagree with.

My first time going here off of a recommendation and ordered “The GodFather” it was packed with meat and definitely was a hefty sandwich I was impressed.
