Wonderful Home Cooking! WoW! Was our first time and thought I was walking into just a Sub Shop, What a surprise to see the Down Home Southern Cooking meat and veggies! I was more than impressed! WoW the best Collard Greens I have ever had! Understand, this is “REAL” Southern cooking, with the veggies seasoned to perfection with I believe fatback and I’m guessing ham hock, salt and pepper and all the secret special things that make real Southern home cooking “REAL Southern home cooking”!
Simply WONDERFUL! Same thing for the cabbage and the mac & cheese was as good as Grandmas and thats saying something as Grandma retired from cooking Southern food professionally! The pork chop & gravy was so tasty.
With a meal this good we had to try the desert and the chocolate cake was rich and satisfying!
My wife had the Gyro and onion rings ( I took a bite ) and that was very good as well. Then you have the nice folks working the place! Y’all made us feel right at home and we thank all of you for that. VERY NICE PEOPLE cooking and serving and just being so nice and friendly. Made us feel like family!
Was also nice to find Sundrop Soda as it took my back 30 years when I worked in Gastonia NC as I can’t find Sundrop at home.
My wife and I promised each other on the way home today that next time we are in Whiteville we will always make the time to eat lunch with these fine folks again.
The food was so good we may drive the 65 miles from home just for lunch as the mac -n- cheese alone is worth the drive.
If in Whiteville YOU MUST NOT MISS THIS PLACE! Wonderful down home food and subs served with a smile! Thanks for a great lunch folks!

Food was delicious! The hot bar had really good southern food like Mac n cheese, collard greens, and pork chops with gravy. The staff was polite and friendly. Definitely will be back!

This place is pretty good. It’s right downtown next to the famous Wards Grill (that isn’t so great any more since the cook passed away unfortunately) I got a Philly Cheese steak and it was pretty good. The bread my favorite part. So good.

They’re new to the area and still getting their routines and flow worked out. So, it’s sometimes a little slow & chaotic. But, you will not be disappointed with the food. Delicious subs and decadent desserts. Worth the wait if you should go during a time when they’re a little off beat in getting things done. My fave sub? The Turkey Bacon Wrap. YUM!

The worst place to get a sub in all of columbus county. Literally any subway would be better. First off there was a hair in the sub. It was PACKED with lettuce, had very little flavor, instead of putting pickles on the sandwich they just threw a pickle spear on the side and wrapped it up with it. They were rude af. They re-fried our fried pickles and tried to force us to buy them after they had already messed them up. Charged us $15 for the sub even though it was priced at $10. And the sandwich made us really sick. Idk what these ppl are doing but I’ve worked in the food industry for 5 years and I’ve never seen anything like this!! Not even at arbys!! Just dont go here, like ever. Unless you’re begging for food poisoning.

Food is okay I had lasagna the sauce was good but I didn’t notice any ricotta cheese in it. My friend ate gyro she said it’s really good. Reasonable prices, clean good service.

I have ordered many items from the menu, each and every time has been wonderful. If you are in a hurry call ahead. They make everything at the time you order so you do need to be patient, but it is well worth the wait. The people have always been so friendly and they take as much time as you need, each customer matters. If you are not in a hurry, this is the place to be!!!

I love Gyros and have bought them from many different places all over the United states and I’ve got to be totally honest………my wife and I bought 2 and they were the absolute WORST we have ever tasted in our entire life!!!! You’d be better off going to Arby’s getting there 2 for $6 gyros. And to top it off the meat was old and tasted as if it were tainted and they were $18 for the both. The only reason we give them 1 star is because you give at least 1 star to add a post.

Food was bland and not fresh at all. Service was mediocre. My wife opted not to eat her meal because she had serious doubts about the safety of the food served. The vegetables and toppings were old to the point of wrinkling. Soggy even. American Hero is more like American Zero.
