a while ago i was soo happy to treat my mother out to lunch and she has been dying to try Indian food. when we walked into the restaurant it was dark lit but it smelled very lovely at the self service table. when we took a look at the food, it reminded us of baby poop and had flies everywhere with maggots on the table. we instantly walked out of there. I hope that they have made some changes since then. At the time they were named #1 in Indian food in Cincinnati. I just cant see how that was even possible. Somebody lied about that and for them to get better business.

I’ve been dining at Ambar India since freshman year of college. That is admittedly over a decade ago .
In all that time, the food has been top notch and the service excellent. I have never had a complaint.
I really enjoy bringing a date here in the evenings, but it is more of a third date kind of place. This is definitely the more classy Indian restaurant in the area.

We had a good experience at the Ambar India Restaurant. The food was amazing! The best Indian food that I have had in the Midwest. My group tried lamb, chicken, and shrimp dishes. The sauces were all great. The garlic naan bread was delicious. I also tried the coconut soup. The service was great! The ladies took great care of our table. They were very polite and answered all of our questions. The only complaint that I have is the restrooms need remodeled. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back. It was a great recommendation from my wife and son who visited a month before me.

Husband and I have been looking for indian restaurant that is willing to work with my dairy sensitivity. Ambar was fabulous with this. The food was downright delicious and so fresh. I loved the Lentil soup. Will definitely be returning. Our hunt for a fantastic Indian restaurant has finally ended.

Amazing Indian food!! One of the best Indian places you will ever find. They ask for your spice level for every dish which is nice customization. The food was so full of flavor and you could tell it wasn’t just thrown together. High quality.
The price is the only thing that I wasn’t impressed with. Maybe that’s normal for Indian restaurants in this area, but it was probably $2-$4 more per meal than most Indian restaurants I have been to. However, I would definitely come here again, just maybe not as often as if the price was a bit lower.

Absolutely horrendous experience — avoid this place at all costs.
This was hands down one of the worst meals I’ve had in Cincinnati. We ordered the tandoori chicken, expecting something flavorful and cooked with actual Indian spices. What we got was chicken dyed in red food coloring, zero masala, absolutely bland, and undercooked. Yes — raw on the inside. We complained, and not only did they NOT refund us, they didn’t even apologize. Totally unacceptable.
The chai? Don’t even bother. It was basically warm water with a hint of milk and no soul. No spices, no aroma — just sad.
And the service? Their servers acted like they were being forced to be there. Rude attitude, zero warmth, and looked genuinely annoyed when we asked basic questions about the food.
I don’t know what kind of “Indian” food they think they’re serving, but it’s a joke. Save your money and your stomach — go literally anywhere else.

Great Indian restaurant. Pricier than some Indian places but ballpark similar. Very nice array of choices. Standard fare to more traditional. Service was quick and polite. Not very busy when we went.

I keep trying different places around Cincinnati but I have failed to find another as good as Ambar. I just tried another restaurant tonight and once again, while it was very good, Ambar is better. Not sure what’s up with some of the very negative reviews, I guess the Indian restaurant biz is very competitive 😉

One of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. The appetizer was not something we were expecting, so we calmly asked the server if the rest of the order could be canceled if it wasn’t already prepared. Instead of handling this like a professional, the owner came out yelling, refused to listen, and aggressively escalated the situation.
He then told the server to pack our food without asking us and was clearly trying to force us out. On top of that, he made offensive and unnecessary comments which were completely unacceptable and disrespectful.
If you can’t handle customer feedback without yelling, insulting, and stereotyping people, you shouldn’t be running a restaurant. Terrible service, rude owner, hostile environment.

Delicious Indian food in Clifton with decent portion. Garlic naan is amazing. I tried the lamb and it is super tender and aromatic (no smelly lamb).
