AMA is a staple. I would say it’s one of the best places to go to for sushi in the twin cities metro area. Their sister restaurant, Momo Sushi, is delicious too, but I believe they’re currently rebuilding.
We always love getting their sushi bucket. You get a lot of fresh options for the price—great for sharing! For me, the winner of the meal was the udon stir fry and the soft shell crab. I’m a big sushi and sashimi fan already, but it was my first time having those two items here and I loved it. You really can’t go wrong with AMA sushi.
The only cons to the place is that it is very small. We made an impromptu decision to go on a Friday night for dinner and it was packed. I think that’s definitely a sign of the food quality, but we waited about 45 mins for a table for 3. Their bar area is very small too so it’s not like you can actually just grab a table at the bar and wait. I will say if you enjoy quality sushi for a reasonable cost, this place is worth the wait, but just a heads up that I don’t believe they take reservations unfortunately so combined with the popularity and small space, probably not the place to go to with a large group. It’s also pretty loud if it’s packed.

So far I have been here twice with two friends and I strived to get an overall feel of their food taste by ordering different items. In my opinion, they have highlights and items that could use further improvement. Depending on what one is looking for, I may recommend this establishment as a solid spot, especially for sashimi.
I have ordered a few different sushi and sashimi entrées and my overall impression was that the sashimi was the absolute highlight. Every type of sashimi I had, ranging from salmon to tuna to escolar, was big in pieces and tasty. Each sashimi piece had different types of fish roes on it as well. I also enjoyed the nigiri, which was basically sashimi on top of rice, and even if the sashimi pieces were smaller, it was still delicious. Because of such, I believe that for those looking for good sashimi, this place would be very solid.
The specialty rolls and California rolls were not so different from what I have had elsewhere, so I enjoyed having them and that was it. I just wasn’t greatly impressed. I also had some of the momos and they were okay, not spectacular, because there wasn’t enough seasoning within the vegetable mixtures and the meat mixtures. The momos relied on the red pepper flake chili oil for flavor mainly. I also had the vegetable teriyaki box and it was underwhelming, because the vegetables seemed very sloppily cut and cooked, and also lacked seasoning. The box had some rolls and scallops in it and that was pretty nice to see.
In terms of pricing, all the items including the sushi bucket that I had were very economical. It is pretty difficult to find affordable Japanese food within the United States in general, and even know I know this place doesn’t just serve Japanese food, their biggest highlights were sashimi and nigiri, so I will recommend this place to those looking for good Japanese food.

Small, cozy spot with seriously impressive sushi. I’m a big fan of Momo Sushi, so I figured I’d love AMA, and I wasn’t wrong.
The menu is huge, almost overwhelming at first because there are so many options, but honestly, everything we tried was excellent. The sashimi is where AMA really shines. The tuna belly (toro) sashimi was divine, easily some of the best I’ve had. Hamachi and red snapper were also incredibly fresh, with generous cuts. This is hands down my favorite place for sashimi when it comes to value and portion size.
The gyoza deserves its own moment. Melt-in-your-mouth, easily the best gyoza I’ve ever had. The golden salmon was great, and the rolls were solid across the board. My favorite was the Sweetheart Roll, and the Tibetan Roll was a fun, unique option if you want to try something different. Sex on the Beach was also a good pick.
Service was quick and friendly, and the complimentary miso soup was delicious. They also have great lunch deals and monthly specialty rolls, which makes it easy to keep coming back.
Parking is easy with free street parking or a nearby ramp. They don’t take reservations, so expect a wait during peak hours, but it’s worth it.

Seriously amazing. We ordered the jalapeño white tail as an app and it was sooo good. We tried the sushi bucket and all of the sashimi is melt in your mouth tender. The sushi rice is incredibly soft and slightly warm. The miso soup is some of the best I’ve had. We didn’t have a single item we didn’t like and we ordered A LOT of food. They were slammed with customers and our waitress still checked in multiple times. This place was impressive.

The food was so good but I absolutely couldn’t enjoy it. We got seated right beside the door and my feet were so dead from the cold. Had to run home. I would go again but definitely Summer never Again on a WINTER NIGHT.

Great little sushi spot! Prices were very reasonable and the service was quick and friendly. The miso soup that came with our waters was a nice start to the meal. Even the vegetable roll was flavorful, which is harder to do with just veggies.
Parking can be harder to find, but that’s to be expected with this area of Edina.

Finally found a great sushi spot in MSP! We’re super picky and are looking for fresh and high quality fish first and foremost. AMA certainly delivers. They have lots of rolls and nice bento boxes. Prices are reasonable and service is outstanding. Overall double thumbs up.

December 2025: We did not have a good dining experience. The waiter tried to dismiss my allergy and the menu is printed too small for me to easily read what a roll includes. The tempura meal my friend ordered came out significantly before the rest of our food, so they were finished by the time the sushi came (otherwise it would’ve gotten cold). I ordered a piece of uni sushi and it came with sauce and wasabi on it even though the menu did not state that. Lastly, we had only been sitting an hour and a staff member said they have a long line so we could either order more or have to leave. Food was good but can get both good food & service elsewhere.
August 2025: This was the third time I’ve been here — the food is always consistent and fresh. Tastes great and looks great. Momo roll, AMA roll, one tobiko and one masago sushi. The old menu style was better (larger print, more interesting to look through).

This time had the teriyaki tofu and veggie tempura roll. Both did not disappoint and I would order both again. My dining partners who all ordered sushi were very impressed with quality and price.
