I’ve heard sooo many things about this place and decided to give it a try. The service was great! The salad and rolls are different. The salad itself is very strong flavored and the rolls were soft and warm but I feel like are just splashed with melted butter and minced garlic nothing to rave about. I ordered the Pollo Amanda which I had seen so many people talk about and the chicken itself was like warm when it got to the table but very well seasoned and full of flavor. The side pasta it came with was a huge portion & unfortunately egg noodles instead of fettuccine it was overwhelming in flavor & richness.

I have been trying to come to this restaurant for quite some time I’ve decided to take my mom here for her birthday so we went to see what all the hype was about I was a little taken by the inside of the place it didn’t throw off an Italian vibe to me it seemed a little outdated in there and it’s extremely dark they said us in a little tiny room that seat four tables a little claustrophobic if you don’t like to sit in small spaces I wish we would have been sat someplace else they do have a really nice room with a fireplace in it but the fireplace was not on the food was okay better than most places I did enjoy the food I ordered calamari and my calamari was overdone over fried veal marsala was very tasty and it was very good my mother had ordered the chicken Palm she said it was very good she just thought the gravy was a little thick on the spaghetti the garlic knots were really good they were very tasty and you could actually for real taste the garlic finally someone gets it my son had the shrimp alfredo he said the dish was very tasty and he enjoyed that he also followed by with tiramisu and my mom and I enjoyed a spumoni ice cream that I haven’t had since I’ve lived in Rhode Island

Altruda’s – Knoxville, TN

Driving down from Northern Virginia to Nashville (over a 10-hour trip!), we stopped in Knoxville for the night and decided to try Altruda’s. This was on October 24, the day before my Nashville Half Marathon, so I wanted a solid pre-race carb meal — and Altruda’s absolutely delivered.

We started with the Tortellini Tricolore — delicious, creamy, and rich. I had to stop myself after five or six pieces to save room. For mains, I ordered the Spaghetti Marinara (keeping it vegetarian before race day), and my friend had the Rigatoni Anthony with ham. Both entrées came with Altruda’s famous house salad — they brought us a large shared bowl with garlic bread on the side, and even offered free refills. The salad was fresh and full of flavor — crisp romaine, earthy beets, mushrooms, and a light, tangy dressing.

The spaghetti itself was fairly simple — not mind-blowing, but exactly what I needed before a race: light, tomato-based, and not greasy or heavy. The Rigatoni Anthony was richer and creamier — a bit much for me that night, but it tasted great.

The ambiance is warm and rustic, with that classic old-school Italian vibe. Service was friendly and efficient even late at night. Overall, it was exactly the kind of comforting, hearty meal I wanted before race day.

I ended up finishing first in my age group at the half marathon the next day — maybe a little Altruda’s magic helped. I’d gladly stop by again the next time I’m in Knoxville or passing through Tennessee.

The salad was the best part of the meal. Perfect amount of dressing and fresh. Do NOT get the calamari unless you like the taste of rubber breaded and fried, you can tell this is not real calamari and very disappointing. The manicotti was so hot you couldnt even enjoy it let alone stop is from burning your mouth, even after waiting 10 minutes it was still piping hot. Overall as someone growing up eating italian food my entire life i was very disappointed in this meal

Update: Tonight we had the pleasure of getting our favorite server again. Kendahl suggested that I order the Pollo Canzanese w/fettuccine, and she was so right. I now put this delicious dish on my favorite foods list. Thank you so much Kendahl! A+ *See photo below.

My wife and I eat at Altruda’s all the time. If you want the best of the best italian cuisine, this is the place to go! Very romantic setting, outstanding food, and the utmost of service. Our server tonight was Kendahl. She was very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. She went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. We give every aspect of Altruda’s an A+

The aroma and decor as soon as you walk in is incredible! I was genuinely so excited to eat here. Service staff was incredibly polite and welcoming. The big issue that I had was with the menu prices and portion sizes. It felt way too expensive for the food we received. The quality was good, and flavors were bold, but not to die for. Garlic bread was fresh and covered in garlic (which was amazing to me) and the salad was delicious. It just felt like for the average food taste and small portion sizes, this place charged like the food was going to be something like I had never tasted before, and it just wasn’t.

I have only eaten here one other time but remember it as much better than last week. 1/26/26… The salad Consisted of iceberg, lettuce only and obviously they didn’t separate the good or bad parts… One slice of tomato, no olives nothing that would really make it a true salad! The rolls were so soggy with garlic butter that they were unedible. I asked for a light on the sauce, but the manicotti came out in a small cereal bowl that had more sauce than actual food. It was over spiced/ Overpriced, and actually worse than the Olive Garden… i’m sure the waiter knew because we left most of our food on the table untouched! There are so many other restaurants in that area. Definitely won’t be going back to that one

This place has great food. The service is okay. The atmosphere is cool but nothing to write home about.

I jabe to doc the service 1 star because I ordered a salad and breadsticks on Saturday, and did not get any dressing. It was a box of large chunks of iceberg lettuce and some cheese. Disappointing at best.

Don’t let that comment hold you back from this place. There are not very many Italian places in Knoxville. I will still say that Altrudas is the best I’ve had in town.

Altruda’s has been the go-to place for me and my family since 2017. We have never been served so promptly and so attentively from the moment we walk through the door until we receive our check to leave! The tiramisu is so incredibly awesome! The tiramisu is the best my daughter has ever had and that is her favorite dessert. The cheesecake gives New York cheesecake a run for its money. In fact I think it is actually better! The the garlic butter rolls have small pieces of garlic on them, they are always so hot and fresh every time. You do not have to wait for them they are there and they never run out. The complimentary salad it’s so awesome you should have to pay a full meal price for it. The White staff knows we would like to have our appetizers as soon as we get there. We always order the fried mushrooms and the tortellini for our appetizers. I swear the wait staff sees us come through the door and they start our appetizers because they come so promptly and so hot and fresh. And because the wait staff is so prompt we never have to wait on our meal. It just magically appears as we complete our appetizers. I’m going to stop raving now, and I am not related to anyone in the restaurant LOL! Come find out for yourself and make this a family tradition!
