This pizza spot has a warm local feel that makes you want to stay awhile. Trying square cut tavern style pizza for the first time was a pleasant surprise and it tasted amazing. The staff at the counter were friendly and took their time helping customers, which I really appreciated. The cool air inside made the experience even more comfortable. Definitely a place I would happily return to.

Update
August 22 2025:
Went back in today after ordering in phone and got the perfect order this time with no sausage and they honoured their word of giving me free pizza because of last time. Best cheese pizza in the area bar none. Worth a trip.
April 17 2025:
The pizza is great, good sauce, great cheese and amazing crust but I could only eat 1 slice as they put sausage in my pizza when I specifically told them no sausage, I had to throw away the whole pizza in trash, 40$ down the drain!
Ruined my day. I called them to ask how they messed up my order and they just said to get a free pizza next time.

This place was awesome, old school pizzeria. Everything made on spot no frozen dough. Fresh ingredients The best pizza I have had in years. My wife brought me here and it is so good. Bar next door works with them to allow drinks in their dining area. The nostalgia on the walls was great to see as well as laugh at. I will make this a stop every time we come this way.

I have had many, many delicious pizzas in the last 50 years plus.
Al’s is up there with the best of the best, including all of Chicagoland

Burnt pizza roulette 50/50. If you get takeout you need to check if they burned it. Seriously.
The little room off Al’s counter is blah. Go to the attached Towne Tap where you can eat it and have a great time. Staff over there are great.
When it’s good it’s great! When it’s bad, half the time, it’s garbage and they don’t care.

Let’s begin with the place, half of the building you will find the pizzeria and in the other half a bar..LOVE IT!!. We ordered the pizza and then through the doors to the bar. The only delivery option is to the bar hahaha.
Now, let’s talk about the pizza… simply, DELICIOUS!!! The BEST pizza in the whole state; thin crispy and tasty crust, I didn’t want to miss a bite; excellent quality ingredients, cheese, Canadian bacon, sauce, mushrooms… you won’t regret the trip to this lovely place, give it a try!!

This pizza was pretty mediocre at best. I found the sauce to be very bland and the cheese was almost plastic-like. I don’t know if it wasn’t fresh or just the quality of cheese but it was tough and had to digest. The biggest downside for me was that only the outer ring of the pizza was cooked. The dough on 75% of the pizza was still raw and uncooked which was a big turn-off for me. The crust that was cooked was pretty decent and reminded me of a cracker-style crust but very little of it was edible and the other topping that made up the pizza lacked flavor. I had heard lots of amazing reviews about the pizza here so when I finally tried it for myself, needless to say I was a little disappointed. Only ate a few slices(the ones that were fully cooked and not drenched in grease) and threw the rest away. The price was reasonable which was one of the few positive takeaways I had.

Great pizza place with a neighborhood vibe. I’ve never had square cut tavern style pizza and it was great. Kind and patient staff behind the counter. Good AC was the icing on the cake

I’m sure from what I hear this is the exception. But I picked a pizza up yesterday in that room with the counter and the crust was soft and actually kind of gross. I don’t know if it was underdone or if I have to order it crispy? Anyway, I put it in the oven and crisped it up and it was ok, but certainly not worth all the hype I’ve been hearing.

Chicago tavern style pizza. A round pizza cut into little squares and rectangles. A little hard to say for a Detroiter. A friend had recommended Al’s the last time I was in town and for some reason I was confused when he said cash only. That’s not true. “Al’s” Pizza does accept credit cards, it’s the bar section next door that is cash only. Order your pizza at Al’s and they will bring it next door and shout out your name when it’s done. Between the two of us we finished off a 14″ pepperoni. Really enjoyed it and I’m glad I finally made it. There are a few tables in the back of Al’s if you wanted to dine in and didn’t want to go next door (through a couple of connected doors in the back). Pizza comes out super hot and to my own lack of will took a bite too soon and burned my tongue. I look forward to the next time I’m in town and more pizza from Al’s.
