Save your money. The food was not great. The brisket and pulled pork were quite dry and flavorless. The rib was the only moist meat that was decent. The wild hog brat along with the elk burger was also very dry and chewy.

I got weird vibes from this place as well. The customer service was questionable; we got so many weird looks, probably because were from out of town. I wouldn’t suggest this place to others.

Customer service is lacking… Location is very nice, quiet and beautiful. The old man who owns the grounds is extremely grouchy, however. Although the location was beautiful, I will not be going back due to the irritation he caused me. There are 1,000 other Colorado locations I would rather go.

Great food, charming roadside BBQ place. Well worth the drive from Denver!
We love the wild game options of meat, as well as the grilled Turkey legs so tender the meat almost falls off the bone.

We love stopping here when we drive 285. The BBQ burgers are great and the jerky selection is unlike anything else that I’ve ever seen. Fun stop with great food and tons of enjoyable character.

This place is a freaking gem. Tasty tasty tasty. The pulled pork was so flavorful it honestly didn’t even need sauce. The coleslaw was so fresh and delicious. This place is honestly a food oasis in the mountains. Just another reason to drive Guanella Pass.

Meet Al himself, the most authentic mountain man I’ve ever met. He’s got an impressive variety of jerky from kangaroo to alligator. While he runs the shop, the misses takes care of the bbq. Their homemade bbq sauce is hard to forget. It’s a fun place to stop and say hello to some friendly faces. The hospitality was true and original. I can’t wait to stop by here on our next trip up!

Awesome place, pulled pork rocks, BBQ sauce is good, coleslaw has a very mellow flavor that tastes slightly of fresh apples beautiful camping area with a little lake right by the smoker. The camping is way more expensive than it should be, 1 tent with 2 people is $20 a night, 1 tent with 4 people is $35 a night, they said they would give a discount if you were staying a long time, but those prices are ridiculous, its cheaper to camp at festivals. The only times iv ever paid anywhere near that much to camp was on special camping trips that happen 1 or 2 tomes a year at places like zoos and White Sands during the summer on a full moon. Besides that the only thing I didn’t like is that I was served store bought beans from a can. Everything else was super, but those beans really pissed me off. I had to make sure to wait a few days to give this review so that my anger didn’t make me take away any more stars. But over all an awesome place for lunch, and I bet you could get them to agree to a decent price for the camping if you are staying 4 or 5 nights and know how to haggle

Al’s Pits Campground is the perfect spot for group camping. We rented the entire campground for our event. It has a band stand, dance floor, 2 out houses, 1 shower, gazebo, numerous fire pits, running river, pond with paddle boats, dump station, 30 amp and water available. Delicious BBQ, jerky, turkey legs and much more. The best part of all was Mr. Al himself! Such a great, genuine person. He made our celebration the best it could be due to his accomadating nature. Thanks for a great time.

I am a local, had to stop here to withdrawal money, wish I had driven to Bailey! The owner wanted to know why I needed so much money, and then told me that he would have to charge me, of course I said. I decided to ask what his favorite jerky was and he invited me in which was a huge mistake on my part. He did NOT have on a mask in his tiny store, proceeded to then touch me which he knew made me uncomfortable, and when I went back to get my receipt because I knew I was overcharged he got upset, and when I went to type my email on his phone he said, “No you grab it,” and laughed because he could tell I was being caution with what I touched. I had never been in as a local because I had read articles about the owner and I could tell I didn’t want to meet him or endorse his business. Trust your judgement, go somewhere else, even for an ATM machine!
