Al’s Hamburgers is a fantastic classic diner-style spot that absolutely nails the basics. The menu sticks to what matters: burgers, fries, shakes, onion rings, cheese curds; that sort of stuff. And everything hits the mark! The burgers are the real standout: my wife’s classic burger was simple but perfectly done, and my Tailgate Burger was incredible, packed with flavor and cooked just right. The mac and cheese was solid comfort food, but the onion rings and cheese curds were next-level; crispy, golden, and addictive. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how good a well-made burger joint can be, no matter how simple it looks.

A classic Old time hamburger place in Downtown GB
The burgers were fantastic, the fries had a great seasoning on them that you didn’t need ketchup or any type of condiment on them !
Service was great !

Al’s Hamburger opened in 1934 and gives you true diner feels.

I was super excited to try one of their burgers due to their claim of best burger in Green Bay.

I ordered the Big Al Burger, which is a 1/2 pound burger with cheddar and Swiss cheese, sautéed onions and mushrooms, horseradish mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and served on a ciabatta bun. You get a choice of fries or tots. Or for an up charge you can do onion rings, deep fried pickles or cheese curds. I went with fries.

My friend got a 1/4 pound hamburger and cheese curds.

When the burger came out, this thing was big and greasy, just what you want from a diner. Unfortunately the burger was extremely bland and had zero seasoning. I asked my friend how their burger was and they said it was blah.

The fries were nicely seasoned and the cheese curds were delicious.

Sadly, I was very disappointed and had high hopes for such a long running restaurant in our city. I’m hoping it’s a fluke and would be willing to try it again.

We stopped in here for lunch recently and had a great experience. There’s not a ton of seating (four booths and seats at the counter), but we didn’t have to wait long for a table. The chocolate shake, burgers, grilled cheese and cheese curds were great. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They charge a 3% fee for credit cards so bring cash if you want to avoid that, but they have an ATM. We will definitely be back.

Nice place, simple atmosphere and fair prices. They can even add extra patties onto a burger for a few bucks.

Burger was really good (very filling) and the seasoned fries were especially delicious. I also ordered a malt which was handmade and so good. Loved the variety of music playing (not overly loud) from the sixties & seventies. Our server was very attentive and friendly.
I didn’t realize they closed at 7 pm on Sunday and we got there about 6:30 but the staff didn’t try to rush us out which I appreciated. I will be back.

A cool classic type diner!! I was able to walk right in and get a counter spot and was able to order fairly quickly! I got a burger fries and a shake overall it was okay burger was a bit over cooked and really no seasoning or flavor at all!however the onions were like half raw half cooked and I ordered cooked. Fries were meh tasted like they were the seasoned fries from Aldi nothing special I was hoping for a classic shoestring diner fry almost like McDonalds. The shining star of the visit was the shake!! Definitely get a shake!

The Greatest spot starting in 1938 for burgers in Green bay WI, Als lived up to its reputation.
Best in Green Bay. I heard they had a hash burger and had to try it a burger paddy with a giant scoop of homemade corn beef hash large chunks of potatoes, fried egg cheese and a special sauce. be there on a Wednesday and get a giant homemade shake or malt for $5 (bonus)!! Way too much to eat, but I did it and didn’t need dinner at the hotel that night. Make a stop it wouldn’t be out of the way for Green Bays Best Burger GBBB!!!!

A little while back I stopped in for the Al’s hash burger, since my last experience ordering that burger was good. However my last visit was not so pleasant and was very disappointing. Hard to go back now. Ordered the hash burger, no onions, sub swiss cheese for pepper jack. Order comes out loaded with onions, so I mention this to the server who brings it back in the kitchen. (Granted whether or not it was typo entering the order this next part should’ve never happened especially if someone has a food allergy, thankfully I didn’t). Order comes back out within 1-2 minutes, onions sitting in the basket next to sandwich. Was never re-made but the cook wiped off the onions, maybe a new bun, but forgot to apply attention to detail with onions still sitting in the basket. Unprofessional in my opinion and that poses a serious health risk. Waitress apologized and I left hungry to only go to another restaurant. Thankfully she removed the meal and soda to which I said I want to still be charged at least for the soda so I could tip her since it wasn’t her fault. Soda charge plus a $5.00 tip.

If you’re looking for a standard burger and delicious, thick cheese curds, check out Al’s! I ordered the 1/2lb Al’s burger with cheese and bacon (and it comes with pickles and onions). Service is quick and friendly, and despite some of these reviews my burger was well seasoned and hit the spot. It’s not the best burger I’ve ever had, but good enough that I’ll be a repeat customer.

The reason I gave this business 4 stars is because I feel some of the prices are a bit high – but, that seems to be the case everywhere! This business accepts cash, or card (with a 3% processing fee).
