BELIEVE THE HYPE!

I attempted to make a reservation here about a month in advance for my boyfriend’s birthday and I had no luck…I quickly learned that trying to get into Alpen Rose was possibly harder than getting into an Ivy League school, but I opted to be put on a waiting list and to receive notifications via “RESY” if any reservations were canceled and it was sort of like the universe had my back because we had the first snow storm of the season on my boyfriend’s birthday and there were a few cancelations so I was able to secure a table at the exact time we hoped for!!!

This is truly a VIP experience from start to finish. No signage outside of the restaurant … you must ring a bell and tell whomever opens the sliding wood panel on the door your name and should you have a reservation you’re let right in, and should you not have one, you’re unfortunately turned away as the restaurant only has 12 tables and 4 bar seats, all of which require reservations.

Service is top notch from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. And when you walk in you’re blown away by the literal and figurative warmth of the restaurant as it’s like you’re transported back in time into what would be the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner in a romance novel … woodwork and chandeliers for days … cozy plush leather seating … fire burning grill in the kitchen … literally the perfect ambiance!

We ordered a few cocktails which were made to order and absolutely delicious! I went with the Number 30 and the Number 35 and recommend both. My boyfriend went with their Old Fashioned which he said was one of the best he’s had.

Bone Marrow Toast, Prawns and Hot Rolls were what we ordered for appetizers and the Dry Aged Strip and Dry Aged Ribeye with Creamed Spinach and the Potato Pancake Stack (that’s not the real l name but can’t remember what it was actually called lol) was what we ordered for entrees and can I just say that our tastebuds were honestly being seduced because this was some of the most special food we’ve had in a really long while … like 5 star special! OMG!

And our server who was top notch ended our dinner with surprise Raspberry Sorbet and Mini Pumpkin Pies with candles in them for my boyfriend’s birthday!

Absolutely 100% worth the hype and every penny!

We will be back! Even if we have to make the reservation now for June 2026

A magical location for a special occasion date, I had a wonderful evening even if I would probably make different food choices on a return trip. The atmosphere is unmatched in any restaurant I’ve been to in Philly but not every dish measures up to its high price tag in my opinion.

Alpen Rose’s hype factor will always mention the stunning interior and intimate luxurious setting, but somehow the high level of hype really doesn’t even do it justice! No matter how beautiful the pictures you see are, they can’t fully convey the mood and especially the SMELL. The gentle wood fire permeates the restaurant in an amazing way I haven’t experienced before.

Service was good throughout the night. While the experience is certainly “fancy” for Philadelphia, it’s still very approachable without being stuffy – the server uniforms have button up tops with vests, but also denim jeans to keep things from becoming pretentious. The whole “knock on the door” gimmick out front is kind of silly, but cute enough.

For food we started with a pretty standard chopped salad and their famous bone marrow toast. The toast was very good, and when you get the perfect bite it is outstanding and worth the hype. However, most of the bites were hard to put together as the marrow struggled to come cleanly off the bone. My wife ordered the beef wellington (a first for both of us) and it was dramatic and impressive! The meet was perfectly cooked and flavorful. However, we both noted that it really wasn’t more than the sum of its parts- some good steak wrapped in puff pastry with some mushroom and prosciutto. Some of the pastry was also a bit raw. It was a tasty dish certainly, but I wouldn’t get it again certainly not at the $90+ it costs.

My dry-aged ribeye was good as well, and I especially appreciated the small touches on the plate that elevated it. The pickled onion and roasted garlic were great palate cleansers and brought intrigue to the dish which is of course a giant piece of meat. The in-house steak sauces were also very good. The ribeye itself was good but not remarkable. In fact, a significant portion of it was quite gristly and difficult to chew. Some of that comes down to the cut itself, that’s just how ribeye is, but it still wasn’t a top-end steak. Also, both my cutlery and my wife’s cutlery were so dull that I actually could not cut through the steak without significant effort. I probably should have asked for a replacement so maybe that’s on me, but my point is that it was a challenge.

The sides (potato puree) and dessert (chocolate cake) were good and solid, and rounded out a pleasant evening. While we enjoyed our time, I think it’s clear that if we were to return we’d order some of the more modest items off the menu. The non-steak options we saw on other tables did look delicious and were priced much more in line with standard restaurant prices, which would be great given how pleasant the atmosphere is.

My experience at the Alpen Rose went over all my expectations. The food here was absolutely amazing. The service in the staff were great. I mean I cannot talk better. The bone marrow was one of the best I’ve ever had just done so well I think the T-bone was great. I think it could’ve been better, but there’s always improvement to be made the beef. Wellington was amazing really done. Well I would have to say the service was absolutely amazing very kind, but not overly pushy and had a great recommendations. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Appetizers: I highly recommend the bone marrow and oysters. Bone marrow is a personal favorite anywhere I go, but the oysters were fresh and delicious.

For the main meal, I got the porterhouse was disappointed, the filet side was dry, and the NY strip side had no flavor or seasoning. However, my friend ordered the ribeye which I sampled a few bites and it was perfection.

Dessert: I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down Alaska, and was not appeased, I recommend to get the Ice Cream Sundae if going as a group.

The ambience inside the restaurant was phenomenal. Alpen Rose has a beautiful interior design and noise level was relatively low making it easy to talk to company.

Went for a birthday dinner and had an amazing experience. Service was absolutely top notch. We ordered the Parker house rolls and wedge salad to start, as well as two cocktails which were a good value for the quality.

For our main we shared the porterhouse and it was PHENOMENAL. The pickled shallots and garlic confit were a lovely touch. I also really enjoyed the house steak sauce and fermented chili sauce they provided. We also ordered the onion rings, asparagus, and pave potato. My only note is our fault in that we over-ordered and should have gone with just two sides. Truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

The ambiance of the restaurant is unmatched. A really unique, cozy space. It’s a wonderful place to celebrate a milestone or special occasion.

Yummy meal and great atmostphere. Highly recommended! Alpen Rose has been on my list for a while and glad we did it!

Food: VERY tasty steak. It was the first time I had beef wellington so I had no point of reference but the meat was super tender and cooked perfect. Other dishes was good as well. Husband’s steak was cooked well as well.

Drinks: Cocktails and wine was great!

Service and atmosphere: great service. We look forward to coming back and trying more.

Recommendation: definitely split the beef wellington and another main dish. Almost each table ordered it and I could see why!

We had a reservation last night to celebrate us getting married that day. We are completely happy that we chose to do so. From the cocktails to the amazing food we were thoroughly impressed. We split the Tomahawk steak which was perfectly cooked! All the apps and sides were equally delicious and done exceptionally. The ambience is exactly what we were hoping for! Was not disappointed in the slightest! Highly recommend this place!

Alpen Rose has a cozy, old school ambiance that immediately sets the tone. The wood fire grill really shines. The bone marrow toast, bone in ribeye, mac and cheese, creamed spinach, and potato pave were all outstanding. Everything was executed beautifully, and the staff was friendly and welcoming throughout. An excellent experience all around.

The cozy restaurant is a fun escape that transports you to an Alpine chalet. Book ahead for this popular eatery. The feurzagenbowle tastes like Christmas! The schnitzel and gravy hit the spot. The salmon and the creamy dipping sauce was a great pairing with the potato pancakes.

My wife and I recently went back to Alpen Rose for our 1st anniversary dinner and we had an amazing night. The service, food, and drinks were all phenomenal. We were lucky to sit at a booth with a view of the entire restaurant and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend the bone marrow toast and the beef wellington! Alpen rose is great for any occasion but they went above and beyond to make our night even more special. Thank you!
