This restaurant is very cute and the ambiance is great for a date night. We loved the decor and the music. Service was also excellent. The food is mediocre. We had the whipped feta and truffle honey to start, the French onion soup, the pesto pasta, the tagliatelle and the vanilla ice cream.
I wish the whipped feta dish came with a sourdough or something chewier with more air, and a crusty. The bread it comes with is like a bread you would use for a sandwich.
The feta was good but it really needs a better bread. The soup was decent. The pastas were the most underwhelming. The pesto lacked flavor and the tagliatelle has a flavor you get tired of after a couple of bites. The vanilla ice cream was watery and not special.
We didn’t have any wine, so perhaps that’s why the food didn’t speak to us. Maybe it’s better accompanied with wine?

We have been trying out new restaurants during Chicago Restaurant Week, and Alpana was our 4th destination. The interior design was stunning, and the place was very busy on a Thursday evening.

For the RW menu, I ordered butter chicken meatballs, chicken mushroom roulade, and French chocolate mousse. My partner chose beets & burrata, red wine-braised short ribs (+$9), and tiramisu. We also added focaccia, which was delicious. While my partner’s dishes were all very tasty, I was not impressed with my choices. We’ve had better butter chicken elsewhere, and my entrée arrived lukewarm. Maybe I should have ordered a pasta dish. The chocolate mousse was tasty, but it was quite small—the smallest dessert we had among all the RW restaurants.

The cocktails were fine, and our server was attentive. Our table was next to the glass doors, so it was a bit chilly on a winter night.

We had an amazing experience celebrating our wedding anniversary here. The staff went out of their way to make our evening special. The menu is Italian with creative and inspired twists—every dish was a delight. We especially enjoyed the curried vegetable, which had a subtle Indian spice influence, the green pistachio pesto pasta, and the decadent sundae. Each dish was beautifully prepared, and the service went above and beyond.

We’ll definitely be returning!

Wonderful dining experience at Alpana! The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. I highly recommend trying their appetizers and main dishes; everything we ordered was spot on.

Special thanks to our waitress, Stephanie, for her excellent service, to the bartender for the support, and to the manager, who was very kind and attentive throughout our visit. The warm and welcoming atmosphere made the evening even more enjoyable. Definitely recommended!

What a night to remember in Chicago! The experience at Alpana restaurant blew my girl and I away. Eleanor was such a delight, she served us and the bar with the same high quality of service. Thank you Eleanor and Alpana for making our anniversary a night to remember!!!

Alpana is a nice place to dine with friends. We found this to be a fusion type restaurant of Americana, Italian and Indian. They do not have valet parking but we found street parking easily and there are a few garages nearby too.

We had a reservation (recommend you do this for ease and not having to wait). We were greeted nicely and seated. Tables are a nice size for groups or if you like to order many things. Food overall was ok, plating of menu items was nice.

Service by our waiter was very good but no one came around to refill or offer more water or drinks until the very end after our meal.
* I’m rating each item 1-5 below.

We had a few appetizers; butter chicken meatballs (4) were very good as was the Malabar shrimp (5) which was our favorite. The golden beets and burrata (2) tasted flat and a big miss as we didn’t taste any pickled onion or dill vinaigrette as described on the menu. The burrata itself was falling apart before we even plated it. I appreciated the little dishes they had for each of us to plate our appetizers.

The striped bass (4) was nicely portioned and flavored delicately. The Faroe Island Salmon (5) had a nice flavor with all the vegetables. It was a nice touch by the chef to have the crispy skin on the top.

We didn’t care for the Brussel sprouts (1) as they were very oily and falling apart and there was no hint of any apple saba that we could detect.

The squid ink Campanelle (4) had a very good sauce and the pasta was al dente. The portion was nice but didn’t have much shrimp. Even though there was minimal shrimp, I still give it a 4 as the marriage of the ingredients was spot on!

The desert menu had a nice variety to choose from. We had the caramel sundaes and sorbet. The caramel sundaes (1) need help. There was hardly any caramel in the glasses. The sorbet (4) was a light refreshing way to end the meal. The key lime pie or basque cheesecake would’ve probably been the way to go!

We liked the vibe, comfortable seating and interior design. It was a very clean establishment. There are menu items that need help and improvement. Where there were generous portions for some of the menu items, others lacked or were missing. When spending $$$, you don’t expect basic elements to be skipped or missed.

The atmosphere and decorations here were so beautiful. The whipped ricotta with prosciutto and the short rib pasta was amazing. However, the $34 salmon portion and the $14 broccolini side were not very flavorful or special tasting. The blueberry sundae was also nothing special, tasted like vanilla soft serve with some jam toppings.

We celebrated a birthday dinner here, and overall it was a really lovely experience. The place is cozy, welcoming, and has a warm atmosphere. Most of the dishes were delicious — only a couple of items weren’t exactly to our taste, but that’s probably just because we’re not used to that type of cuisine.
The service was excellent as well: attentive, friendly, and very professional. Everything came out on time, and the staff made sure we felt comfortable throughout the evening.

Special thanks for bringing me birthday present

Overall, a wonderful spot for a nice dinner

This restaurant offers a fantastic ambiance that makes it ideal for a special occasion or date night, complemented by a lovely outdoor seating area. We were fortunate to secure a table as a walk-in, but as the evening progressed, the dining room filled quickly. A reservation is highly recommended.

On the culinary side, the Sea Bass was the highlight—it was prepared flawlessly and is a must-order. Our appetizers, the Whipped Feta and Honey and the Steak Tartare, were both good starters. A word of caution regarding the Squid Ink Campanelle: its flavor profile leaned heavily into strong lime notes, which may not appeal to every palate. Finally, we found the French Onion Soup to be a bit underwhelming compared to other options available in the Chicago area.

Amazing restaurant – had the best whipped feta of my life (and I eat a lot of cheese). Amazing vibes and ambiance! Our server was very helpful in making recommendations, and for all my fellow gluten free friends – they have a whole gf menu!! They also have a whole menu for vegetarians as well. It was my husband’s birthday and they made sure to celebrate him with the best soft serve ice cream to end the night. Can’t wait to return!
