I went to Alora last Friday for happy hour with friends, and it was a lovely way to start the weekend. We ordered oysters along with negronis and limoncello spritzes—everything was fresh and well done. The oysters were beautifully presented and tasted great, and the cocktails were flavorful and well balanced.
The real standout here is the ambiance. The restaurant is gorgeous, with stunning bay views that make the experience feel special, especially as the sun starts to set. Service was friendly and welcoming, and while the value is okay, you’re definitely paying more for the setting and views than for a bargain happy hour—and honestly, it’s worth it.
We had a wonderful time and would absolutely return, especially when we’re in the mood for great views, good drinks, and a relaxed, upscale atmosphere.

Our server was super friendly and really made the overall experience. The service was definitely a highlight of the night. The atmosphere was great and the mezze platter was tasty. Overall though, most of the food felt a bit one note in flavor and the menu didn’t quite deliver as we were hoping.

We came in for a last minute “happy hour” menu literally! We were waiting for a wedding to start we came a little early. Since we had time we stopped at Alora. The spot looks fancy. The bar is beautiful. So we sat at the bar and ordered from the happy hour menu. The guy at the bar was really nice, but he did keep repeating we have less than 10mins to orders. So we did it quickly.
We ordered Hummus HH and Crudo. So beautiful on the plate and tasty flavors for my pallet. Of course we also ordered drinks. Like I said we didn’t stay too long but for the short time we stayed it was fun. We’ll have to come back for an actual meal to get the full experience. But totally recommend happy hour menu. Can’t beat the price.

Good location for a meal which you can choose to eat under a covered and heated outdoor patio or indoor.
Menu is reasonably priced for such prime locations. Portion size is also fair..
Plat seating is very nice and all the dishes we ordered are very well seasoned and cooked.

This restaurant is being completely let down by its front-of-house staff.
My husband and I walk past Alora almost every evening and it is always empty, which led us to assume the food must be bad. We were actually surprised when we finally came with friends and found that the food is… not bad. But we finally understand why the place is perpetually empty.
We returned about a month later at 5:00 pm, when the entire restaurant was empty (see photo), and were flat-out refused a table by the hostess despite multiple open reservations being available on OpenTable. We only tried walking in because we saw those reservations online. After she turned us away, we booked a reservation on the spot, showed it to her, and only then were we allowed to sit. This defies basic logic.
It somehow got worse. She tried to seat us at the bar, apparently not noticing that I am 9 months pregnant, and handed us the lunch menu instead of dinner.
During our meal, we watched her deny two additional walk-in parties, again while the restaurant remained completely empty and tables were clearly available online. Confused patrons stood there staring at an empty dining room as they were turned away.
When we asked a server what was going on, we were told they had “big parties coming at 6:30–7.” I’m sorry, but what kind of incompetent operation can’t turn a table of 2–3 people in 1.5–2 hours, especially when the restaurant is currently empty?
This experience was a masterclass in how terrible service can destroy a business. The food isn’t half bad, but the front-of-house is so poorly managed that I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

This is a hidden gem on Embarcadero! If you like flavorful Mediterranean food and great cocktails it’s a must-go.
Everything we ordered was delicious and very tasty — the octopus was cooked well and simply superb. Even the random side of roasted vegetables was amazing.
The restaurant was somewhat empty when we were there for dinner, which was nice because it was quiet and we had very attentive service.
All the cocktails we ordered came quickly but were made to perfection.
We sat inside because it was a little too windy out… I appreciated the clean, modern decor and cozy tables.
I don’t go downtown much anymore, but will definitely come here again when I’m in the area (I think back in the day this used to be the original location of The Plant??)

What a fantastic dining experience. The restuarant decor and style was very beautiful and decorative. The service was superb. Food was excellent. Only gripe I have is restuarant does not have its own bathroom but directs to a public bathroom outside. Albeit it was clean enough for a public restroom, do have to share it with everyone. The beef shishalik and the roasted eggplant were must try. Parking is easy enough to find. Can park at pier 3 lot

What delicious meals! I had a salad with braised or baked chicken. Yummers! The ambiance is lovely. We saw at a table overlooking the water. My only concern is that a plate of spaghetti with a slice of white cheese sitting on top should not cost $27. This was for my seven-year-old grandson. It was not a lot of food. It cost about the same as my entree and more than the other entree, which my daughter and her husband shared. My daughter questioned the price, but they weren’t budging. Still, it was a lovely experience. I would dine there again happily. My advice: Steer clear of the spaghetti if value for money matters.
