Service was good. It was nice of a gentleman other than our waiter to ask us if everything was okay.
On the other hand, my husband’s salmon was petite. So were the supposedly mixed vegetables but were mostly green beans with his meal.
My two soft shell crabs and the green beans were not convincingly good tasting. I was shocked when I saw that they charged $42.95 for my meal (ref. uploaded pictures). Even for dinner it would have been way overpriced. We had lunch at 12:15 p.m. Soft shell crabs here are not worth it!
This rating is 3 in consideration of our guests’ positive np experience. If I base this on mine, it would be 1.
I trust I had described our collective experience fairly.
The evening began with the Lump Crab Meat Cocktail, a dish that set the tone with its elegance and freshness. The crab was tender, sweet, and perfectly chilled, enhanced only by a delicate touch of seasoning. It was a refined starter that celebrated the purity of the ingredient, leaving the palate refreshed and eager for the courses to come.
For the entrées, both selections showcased the kitchen’s range and finesse. The Surf and Turf was indulgent perfection—an expertly cooked steak with a satisfying sear, paired seamlessly with buttery, rich seafood. Every bite offered a balance of texture and flavor that spoke to precision and skill. On the lighter side, the Lemon Sole Marechiara was a triumph of coastal flavors. The delicate sole carried the brightness of lemon, while clams, mussels, and calamari brought a briny depth that was both rustic and refined. The sauce tied everything together with a lively citrus accent, making each forkful sing with freshness.
Elevating the dining experience even further were the thoughtfully chosen wines. The Tapestry by BV was a masterful companion to the meal, its bold structure and complex notes of dark fruit, spice, and oak complementing the richness of the Surf and Turf while standing up beautifully to the seafood’s savory nuances. To close the evening, a glass of 20-year Taylor Port offered a lush, velvety finish. Its notes of dried fruit, caramel, and subtle nuttiness lingered on the palate, creating a decadent finale that felt both luxurious and comforting.
Yet, what truly distinguishes Alex’s Bar & Grille is its service. The staff anticipated needs with grace and attentiveness, offering wine pairings that enhanced the meal and timing each course to perfection. Their genuine hospitality made the experience not just a dinner, but an occasion.
From start to finish, Alex’s Bar & Grille delivered an unforgettable evening, seamlessly weaving together fine cuisine, excellent wines, and standout service. It is the kind of establishment that makes a diner feel valued, and the kind of meal that lingers in memory long after the last sip of port.
