This unassuming location surprised us with an elegant dinning experience! We arrived on a weeknight without a reservation. The hostess was not available to greet us so we waited to catch the attention of the server. The hostess did not know the soup of the night, but the server was quite loquacious about the specials, describing in detail how dishes are prepared, highlighting the ingredients, sauces, and flavors. The Harvest Salad featured a delicious breaded round of goat cheese that was crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The truffle gnocchi was so flavorful that I cleaned the plate, savoring the sauce. The potato flour was perfectly fluffy, not chewy. The bone-in pork was masterful as well. We were tempted by the carrot cake. Its texture was grainy and heavy. In contrast the cream that was served with it was light and well-balanced with a note of brandy. We enjoyed our visit and had many tasty vignettes to share with friends.

My husband and I had our wedding at this amazing establishment. It was just beautiful. All our guests commented on how great the food was and how amazing the atmosphere was. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. I would do it a million times again! The whole process was unforgettable and simply incredible. I can’t say enough good things. Thank you!

Finally made time to get over here and must say I had an absolutely PHENOMENAL dinner with the wife! Will not be waiting as long for a return visit, thats for sure…
The restaurant was quiet on a Tuesday but not uncomfortably so. A few other tables were definitely enjoying the evening as well. Meat was cooked perfectly and paired really well with the waitresses suggested wine. The crab cakes were really, really tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The slaw pushed it over the top! The Shrimps were also, amazing! Everything prepared with care, with thought and with FLAVOR! All to often the most importantelementis lost in the quest for presentation. Not at Alexander’s, not on the dishes we had at least! From start to finish there was not a thing I didn’t love about this meal. Chocolate tort closed the night and it was glorious, velvety rich and creamy. That, is decadence!
“Lisa” Alexander came and talked with us about the day, the restaurant and of life. Her gift to the restaurant is clear and her warmth is very welcoming. You can feel the love of a family here… Our waitress was also really great! Knowledgeable of the menu, the restaurant and the area. She helped us pair a wine and had recommendations for the wife that REALLY helped out! It’s the little stuff ♡ All in all it was a really beautiful place for a rare evening with my wonderful partner and I want to say thanks to the staff, and to the owners. Thank you for helping bring elegance back to Nevada City, we need it! CHEERS!!

If you’re looking for a special occasion restaurant, this is it! The atmosphere is understated but elegant, the service was prompt and attentive without being overbearing, and the food was excellent! If my husband could, he would’ve licked the plate! Two people in our party had the rib-eye and said it was perfect. I had the New York steak and loved it. One other person had the bone-in pork chop and couldn’t stop raving about it. For dessert we had crème brûlée which was divine and also had chocolate soufflé – with just the right amount of chocolate. No one at our table drinks so without adult beverages, but with a nice tip, we were in the mid 200’s at the end of the meal for 4. So, for us, it’s a special occasion place that we’ll enjoy a couple times per year! I was too excited to eat and forgot to get pics of our entrees. ♀️

The entire meal was outstanding, and the staff were both friendly and attentive. We started with the escargot as an appetizer. My husband had the NY steak, which was perfectly cooked to a medium rare and paired with a flavorful Caesar salad. I chose the Beef Wellington along with the soup. For dessert, we indulged in the crème brûlée and the chocolate soufflé. Every dish we tried was exceptional, and we highly recommend them all.

Amazing food and service. Entrees include soup/salad, vegetable and starch. Beautiful plating. Will return. Pear tart was light and delicious. They make their desserts in house.

Classy as it gets around here. I love coming the Alexanders Station for the waterfall ambiance at sunset. But after this last time I’m coming back for the service and special touches. Vincent the chef appeased my desires and made us a special mystical truffle sauce. It was sublime. Plus our server brought over a special celebratory gesture, which went above and beyond. So grateful to have this gem in my neighborhood. Excellent gourmet food, excellent service. Thankyou!!

My husband took me here to celebrate my 50th birthday. He had not physically entered the restaurant before, but from previously reading the reviews, he remembered someone using the word “unassuming”.
Let me break it down for you. The food is the only thing saving this place. Everything about the inside of the place screams the 90’s, down to the napkin fold. The dining room (and bathrooms) are in desperate need of a makeover.
The vibe inside is OLD. There were two waiters managing five tables there while we dined. No bussers, which were needed because we ran out of water several times. From what we saw, the average age who frequents Alexander’s are senior citizens who have been going to this establishment to celebrate milestones throughout the years. Once these patrons die (sadly not far off I reckon), there is not going to be a base to support this establishment.
My advice to the owners is to do something quick so the word gets out Alexander’s has revamped before it’s too late – unless retirement is near, which if that is the case, milk it for all it’s worth. While the food is quite good, more will be needed to sustain the restaurant, especially as a younger crowd moves into the area.
We would only return if somewhere else were paying for it (it is $$$), and we sat outside on a warm summer day next to the waterfall which would hopefully drown out the horrid elevator music.

My daughter and I had a wonderful dinner starting with the freshest, well-dressed garden salads. Our main entree choices were the grilled salmon and beef Wellington followed by dessert including chocolate mousse cake and Profiteroles (best dessert we’ve ever had!) Every aspect of this dinner was top notch. Our waiter, Ryan, was very personable and definitely knows his stuff…wondered if he was also a chef, based on his representation of each menu item. The atmosphere on the patio was so pleasant with the waterfall sounds and sight in the background. We highly recommend Alexander’s Station House in Nevada City.

We have followed chef Alexander all over the greater Sacramento area over 30 years. He always puts out great food, and the Station is no different. We had a fantastic meal and a nice bottle of wine. They even managed to make it snow for us.
