We began with French onion soup and a Caesar salad. The onion soup was properly broiled with a generous cap of melted cheese, though the broth leaned mild rather than deeply caramelized. The Caesar salad was crisp and assertive, distinguished by a pronounced anchovy presence that gave the dressing depth and a briny intensity. It was bold and memorable, though those sensitive to anchovy may find the flavor slightly heavy handed.
For the main course, the filet mignon was not tender yet cooked as ordered, medium. My dog sure enjoyed it. The New York strip offered a more robust, beef forward flavor, though it lacked the dramatic crust that elevates a steak from good to exceptional. A side of king crab mac and cheese added richness and indulgence, creamy and satisfying, if slightly heavy on the sauce.
A glass of Silver Oak Cabernet complemented the meal beautifully, bringing structure and polish that the plates themselves occasionally flirted with but did not fully achieve.
Service was attentive and warm throughout the evening. The pacing was comfortable and the staff professional without hovering. The final tab for two, including cocktails, wine, sides, and entrees, came in just over two hundred dollars before tip, placing Alexander’s firmly in the special occasion category.
Alexander’s is dependable and refined, but it stops just short of delivering the depth, creativity, or culinary distinction that would make it a destination. For a traditional steakhouse experience in Ormond Beach, it satisfies. For those seeking something transcendent, it leaves a little room for growth.
The food was excellent, especially the steak, which the restaurant is known for. My friends ordered bourbon from the bar, including a ten-year aged option, and both drinks were said to be excellent. Since it was my birthday week, we came to celebrate, and the staff surprised us with cakes. The owner also came by to greet us, which made the evening feel even more welcoming.
Parking is available in the back as well as in front on Granada, though the street can be busy.
I would love to return, especially for a special occasion, as this is the kind of place that makes the night feel memorable.
A special shoutout to Josh behind the bar — not only a talented bartender but also engaging and attentive, making the whole experience that much better.
The food? Outstanding. Every dish was spot-on, with the meats being especially impressive — perfectly cooked, rich, and full of flavor.
We enjoyed a great evening at the bar with excellent service, delicious food, and an atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommended!
The staff was great.
If you have never been, this is a must.
