NEW BRUNSWICK: As proud alumni of Rutgers University–New Brunswick, we love being able to bring Brie along to one of the city’s coolest long-standing hangs, the Ale ‘N ‘Wich Pub pub.
Their outdoor patio is perfect for leashed and friendly dogs, with tables & chairs, a fantastic The Simpsons TV show mural, and a couple of cozy covered nooks. We were lucky to be served by the awesome bartender Chris, who happily chatted with us about our favorite bourbons. It is a full bar with some genuinely interesting options, including Eric LeGrand bourbon whiskey. His story is as powerful as the pour: after a career-ending injury at Rutgers, he has gone on to become a motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and a member of the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
It is best to visit on the early side before the place hits its lively stride.

Haven’t been here since I moved out of Rutgers, but the memories will forever be engraved with me. $2 tuesday was a must here and I was always treated extremely well. The bartenders always got me and my boys right and the owner is a funny dude. Miss ya’ll!

Love, love, love this place forever and will always be my go-to spot for great vibes and drinks! Riley and Parker are such amazing bartenders and keep the vibes up in the pub at all times! The drinks are some of the best I’ve had in New Brunswick, and the prices are just reasonable compared to some subpar drinks I’ve paid more for in other pubs in the area.

I love the diverse crowd and the owner’s responses to the 1 star reviews have my mom and I laughing out loud. People who go around leaving 1 star reviews on businesses are usually completely senseless. Love that the owner here has had it. Some other types of businesses can’t even respond due to HIPAA and such. It’s terrible.

Use to be a regular until I was escorted out by a fragile Security guard over a non-issue. I ended up getting swarmed by 3 guards on my way out. one of them robbed my personal belongings once out the door. Owner Robert was not helpful at all, ended up cutting contact with me for being insistent on asking for security footage. What good is your bar when you have Security guards that steal from regular customers. I do not recommend coming here, especially if you have money.

Everything was really good when me and my friends went into this bar for the first time. We were all having a good time until I asked the bartender if they had any more drinks that were lighter than what was on the menu. The bartender then gave me an attitude and made a snarky comment about me asking the question. I simply asked a normal question and his whole demeanor changed and became disrespectful. The employee should always be polite to the customer no matter what and being disrespectful because of a question is not ok at all. It seemed like he was in a bad mood or had a bad day before talking to me and then suddenly let it out on me. Food was good but that bartender ruined the whole experience for me and my friends. After I overheard him whispering to the other bartenders about my “stupid question” when I stepped away from my friends and went to the bathroom. I personally don’t want to go to a place where I get disrespected and made fun of for asking a question and I don’t know why anyone would want to either.

The atmosphere here is great, and the people who frequent this bar are cool. However, both times I’ve came here I’ve had problems with the bar tender. The first time I came I had no idea what bar this was so I asked the bar tender if they had any mixed drinks, and I got attitude from the bar tender. He made me feel stupid for asking that question, even though it was only my first time here and I didn’t know. Second time my friend accidently brought in an outside drink, and the bouncer said he would have to toss it in order to come inside. Not sure why he couldn’t finish the drink before coming in. Overall each time I’ve came here the male bartender and bouncer were very rude and unprofessional. Sucks because this is a cool spot.

came here for the first time last night and ordered one whiskey sour and 2 cups of water. my bill was ~5 dollars and i left a 10 dollar tip… come to find out i was actually charged $40 on my debit card. really shady, not sure what that was about. 🙁

love this place. drinks are great, bartenders are superb, and the atmosphere is everythinggg. however… the bathroom NEEDS soap, it NEEDS a toilet/urinal that flushes. its completely unsanitary to have bathrooms that are not rlly functional. credit cards, drinkware, pool sticks and etc are being touched on a daily basis and with no adequate soap or a toilet that flushes, it’s kind of gross to think about. hopefully this changes soon, ESPECIALLY with the students coming back
