TLDR: Friendly staff, fast seating, and generous portions. Food was average, textures could improve.

We were visiting from LA and tried Al Dente Ristorante on a busy Friday night in the North End. Service was welcoming and quick, which stood out in such a packed area. Portions were large and shareable, and the team clearly worked hard to keep things moving.

Food itself was mixed. The calamari needed more crispness (a 2nd fry would really improve it). The lobster ravioli was fine but leaned too much on briny flavor without much depth in the sauce. The chicken lemon linguine was a bit soggy instead of light and fresh. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either.

Overall, it’s decent for the area if you need quick seating and solid portions, but with so many other options nearby, I’d probably try a different spot next time.

Pro tips
• Portions are generous, so consider sharing.
• Ask for extra crisp on fried dishes.
• Walk the neighborhood if you want to explore stronger options.

Will not return. Visited for dinner and found it was inconsistent across different dishes and had a high price point. Service was average

Calamari: 1/5 Tasteless, the marinara sauce did the heavy lifting

Linguine alla Vongole: 2/5 Didn’t taste authentic or close to it at all, the pasta tasted like it was simply tossed around in the sauce, not COOKED in it, also had a miserable number of clams for the price. There was too much pasta and I felt hungry very shortly afterwards

Bolognese: 5/5 Probably the best dish here, it tasted amazing and the portion was very generous with a lot of meat and pasta

Al Dente absolutely delivered! The Chicken Parmesan was made to perfection. Tender chicken with a crisp, flavorful breading, topped with a deliciously rich red sauce and served over penne pasta that was cooked just right. The Fried Calamari was just as impressive. Perfect crunch, tossed with hot cherry peppers that added a bold, flavorful kick. Both dishes came in generous portions and were packed with flavor from start to finish. Highly recommended, and without a doubt, I’ll be ordering both every time I visit! A+++ Al Dente

Should be next $bracket up. I had vodka sauce w/ Italian sausage on fresh pasta – my plate was $40. Service was friendly and helpful. We were in the basement that was near kitchen and smelled slightly of bleach but was cooler.than upstairs.

Had a great lunch here! Fresh pasta, awesome food and atmosphere. Great service. Quaint little spot in the middle of a popular street.

Before anything else, the waitresses Jessica and Jeny gave us excellent service, after we asked not to be attended by the supposed manager mentioned below.

First of all, the woman who seemed to be the manager gave my group terrible and very rude service.

Now moving on to the food, especially the pasta, the sauces were extremely watery. The bruschetta served there was almost offensive — just a piece of bread toasted with olive oil and topped with diced tomatoes at room temperature. The fried escalopes were dripping with oil and looked like something from Walmart’s frozen food section. Not to mention the bread served at the table, which seemed like it had been sitting in the pantry for days, along with butter like the kind they give you on airplanes.

And the most absurd thing I’ve ever seen: they charged extra for OLIVE OIL AND GRATED CHEESE — and when we agreed, they brought them mixed together in the same container. It was laughable!

$700 completely wasted, and my group, with full agreement, said we wouldn’t go back there even for free. Thank you!

We had the most wonderful experience! Annette took such good care of us, taking time to explain the menu and bring a sample. The fresh pasta was unbelievable—I’m not sure any of us have ever had Italian food this amazing. We had so much fun and were delighted to end the evening with a round of lemoncello. Will definitely be back!

Overall pretty mid. The seating and tables are cheap feels quite cramped in there, and the service was pretty slow even when going for an early dinner seating. Staff was a bit brisk, not rude but definitely in a rush and not interested in being asked questions. And the food was mid. Raviolis are great (lobster and pumpkin) but the red sauce based dishes were very lacking in flavor (tasted like basic grocery store sauce) and the Caesar salad is also bland. So overall it’s fine Italian but I will try other places in north end before coming back

Packed-in restaurant, very family-style and classic old North End style. Portions are huge and everyone has to order a dish so prepare for leftovers! Honestly one of the cheaper pasta places in the area which I appreciate, but found the flavors of the tomato sauce to be lacking. Pasta is great though, amazing texture, just needs more spice, overall solid place for dinner!

Absolutely a hidden gem. I have eaten alot of Italian food in my life. This was the best sauce and food I have ever eaten. We had mussels and chicken parmigiana. It was outrageous. Not to mention the service was great. The best was they have air conditioning. You must eat here!!! Make a reservation.
