Our full-service restaurant and brewery — a brewpub — launched in the Classic City of Athens, Georgia, in October 2017, to give craft beer fans a place to eat, drink and call home. We are dedicated to the mission of crafting distinct and consistent ales with unique twists that provide balanced and enjoyable flavor profiles and tantalize your taste buds. And because no beer is complete without a side of food, at Akademia, you can rest assured that you’ll leave with a belly full of pub fare inspired by seasonal ingredients.

We both had burgers, cooked at different temps, both delicious with that great old fashioned burger flavor. Not taking a star away but I’d rather have had a regular burger bun than a pretzel bun as I’m just not a fan. I had the Brussels sprouts as my side, more than enough for 2 or 3 people and to die for, and hubby fries.
I loved all the flavors in my flight and my hubby was very pleased with the bartender’s substitution for his choice of light beer.
The outside looks like a typical small strip mall but once inside it’s a cool industrial style bar, great air conditioning for a hot day, with being able to see the beer tanks; wide open. There is an outside area too and, if I’m correct, has a burn ring for winter.
We will definitely be back.
Brussel sprouts were overcooked, a usual trait among many restaurants. Good on them to serve a dip with them to mask it, but I really would prefer juicy sprouts over dry ones.
The salmon was fantastic. Well and evenly cooked and tasted amazing. The burger was a bit too well done despite asking for medium. The fries and pasta were also really good.
Depending on who is cooking and serving the bar, you will get drastically different outcomes for your meal. Today was probably the most disappointing meal I’ve had at Akademia. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, which in the past has been VERY consistent and delicious. Today I received big chunks (not shredded, pulled pork – I even asked my server if I was mistakenly given chicken) of overcooked pork with very overcooked fries. All of the fries at our table were overcooked; very crunchy, nearly inedible. Most of us didn’t touch them.
Everyone is friendly, but the service is usually slow even if you’re 1 of 2 tables in the whole building. I think management needs to be putting a lot more effort into training their entire staff with standard procedures. We’ll probably be taking a long break on Akademia again and seeing how they do at a later date.
The other issue is more of a personal preference for me, but there is a lot of noise. You can hear the music from the kitchen, different music playing from the bar, and different music from the brewing area sometimes. It’s too much conflicting noise.
I like IPA’s and this place didn’t disappoint. Very tasty stuff! Great variety too.
We ordered cheese curds and fried pickles to split between the two of us. The fried pickles aren’t your ordinary fried pickles. They had a unique pickle bite, thinly sliced and had a good crunch. Perfect with beer.
We both ordered the wild mushroom pasta with chicken. This dish hit the spot and was very filling. Portions are more than you can eat. I had to get a to-go box. I’m looking forward to leftovers tomorrow.
The atmosphere was laid back. We sat at the bar. Brandon was our bartender and very attentive. I ordered my first beer off the menu and asked for a recommendation on the second. He nailed it with an EQ IPA.
If you’re looking for a good place for beer and food, this is it. Especially if you’re on this side of town. There isn’t much to choose from.
Came in on a Tuesday lunch. We were seated immediately. Everything was clean and shiny! Our waitress Madison was excellent and attentive. Super friendly but gave us space!
Lots of beer choices and they do offer the option to taste the different varieties. I also saw someone trying a flight of beers. A great idea.
The food was hot and excellent. They were out of fish and chips, but the burgers were wonderful.
It’s a nice venue, with ample seating indoors and an outdoor patio.
The bar is huge and looks shiny and high-tech. As does the brewery!
Bathrooms were clean.
This is a hidden gem and is a great place to share with visitors that want a high quality unique experience.
There is plenty of parking.
This place is kind of hidden. The landmark for your turn is the old gray bus with their logo on it. And there’s plenty of parking.
Highly recommend it for casual drinks, an interesting conversational date night, or a good meal. Ask for Madison!
Despite the slow service, we had a pleasant dining experience. Would definitely come back again!
