The interior features an industrial design, with a striking whale painting that adds character to the space.
I tried Steffen’s Pflaumenkick, a plum and lemon soda mix that was refreshing but milder than expected. The tuna sushi bowl, however, was excellent well-balanced flavours that came together beautifully. The pork schnitzel was crispy and flavorful, and the fries were perfectly cooked, though they came with mayonnaise by default.
While the food was enjoyable, service was on the slower side, likely due to the limited number of staff covering a large area. That said, the team was friendly and doing their best to keep up.
Overall, it’s a good spot with tasty dishes, though a bit pricey. With some improvements in service speed, the experience would be even better.
I recommend the fish and chips, which was really nice seasoned and the price/quality ratio was very good.
The desserts were ok, but not in the level of the main dishes I must say. The service was polite but a bit annoyed by our table, which was big, but I think that a good service should be able to navigate it better.
I would gladly come back and I definitely recommend it.
Really beautiful place, and the high rating tricked us. The most delicious thing there were the popcorns.
I would guess that this rating is based on fake accounts. I really cannot recommend it. And you really need to train your staff.
The staff was accommodating and getting in with our rather large pram, was not that much of an issue. We were promptly seated and our daughter was offered a colouring set, which was rather nice.
The food selection on the menu is rather limited. We decided on the salmon and the fish and chips. Unfortunately, the fish and chips did not live up to expectations for the price asked. There was all but a sliver of fish in-between the butter, which was fried perfectly on point, but what is the point without a healthy fillet of fish in it. The fries, we’re slightly over cooked and way too salty straight out of the kitchen. The salmon, nothing to write home about. Just mediocre, slightly overcooked and little flavour.
The drinks ordered alongside, very blunt to put it bluntly. We wish we didn’t. Overall, did we get value for 57 Euro, any hint of chef’s excitement over his food? Unfortunately, not at all.
As it appears, one has to do a lot more than to franchise one’s name, especially when the “signature” dishes or “Henssler Style” leaves a lot to wish for to make it a culinary experience. Unfortunately this bad experience for us will transpose itself onto all “by Steffen Henssler and we will make an effort to avoid stumbling into any by chance, but rather take a chance and book our table at the Bullerei. ( We are aware the food concept there is different, but good food and presentation is good food and presentation, no matter if fish or meat.)
I didn’t even ask for coffee or espresso as I usually would for my closing note – we just wanted to leave, leaving the disappointment “by Stefan Henssler” behind.
