Agave Mexican Restaurant in West Annapolis Closes After Short …

The restaurant, which only opened in July of 2023, was known for its authentic Mexican cuisine and extensive tequila and mezcal collection.

Not only are the food and beverages fabulous, the restaurant is nicely decorated, and the service was impeccable.

The portions are over the top. Be careful not to over order, seriously.

The menu is vast. Each dish was meticulously prepared. Each drink is made with top ingredients, served in nice drink ware, and garnished well.

My only slight complaint was the table directly across from us had three children who were a tad louder than I would have preferred; the restaurant was not crowded enough for the large family with children to have possibly been seated with some reasonable space. Definitely not the end of the world for sure but it was a small atmosphere buster.

Nonetheless, it did not hurt the food or service. My wife and I will definitely be back!

Insanely perfect chips and tasty fresh salsa. I could eat those till the end of time. Solid Oaxacan cuisine. Lovely outdoor dining experience, but they could use a little more shade. Apologies for digging into our dishes before posting photos, we were hungry and it really hit the spot.

Such a great experience in this place. We got there about 3 p.m. it wasn’t crowded at all, plenty of parking (probably during the weekend, it will be busy and a little difficult to find a spot). Alexis was very professional and friendly.

The food was very good. I absolutely recommend the Ginger, Garlic, Cilantro Corn. Very flavorfull. For desert, the Coconut cake it was very good, but be careful because it’s a big piece of cake and probably a lot of calories.

The restaurant is beautiful both inside and outside, and you almost feels like you are in a resort at Cancun in Mexico.

The only thing I miss was there was no expresso machine for cappuccinos!

We certainly will be back.

Agave is a relaxing place to dine. The prices are a tad high but it’s in Annapolis so that’s probably the reason. I took my daughter here for dinner before her trip back to school from the winter break. She ordered the fish tacos and I have the blue cheese steak quesadilla we also had a side of guacamole and chips and I had Mexican corn as well. The food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful. This is our third or fourth trip back.

I was excited to try this place but had a disappointing experience. The nearly $100 fajitas were way overpriced and came with very little cheese, lettuce and salsa. The sides were also overpriced. $13 for rice and beans to go with the fajitas. The menu is also alittle deceiving because you pay separately for rice and beans which normally come with fajitas at a normal restaurant. The service was terrible, with dirty plates that never got picked up. The tables around us were disappointed as well with empty drinks. We won’t be returning, and I advise others not to waste their time or money here. Also the atmosphere was horrible. Extremely loud with tables on top of each other.

Went at the beginning of Annapolis restaurant week, and had no idea it started or that they were participating as there was no mention on their website. We were just looking for a different restaurant to try for girls’ night. It was crowded and extremely loud. The bar area is standing room only and right next to the seated areas with no division other than a walkway. They were understaffed and not prepared for this Saturday night’s service. We all tried the restaurant week menu to sample a little of everything. First course, we each chose a dip with chips, guacamole, queso and red salsa. The guacamole and queso were bland. The red salsa was tasty. Second course, Mexican rockets, chicharrones and vegetarian pupusas. We received 2 orders of chicharrones so by the time the vegetarian ones came out the 3rd course was being served. I did take them home and eat them the next day. They were the best part of my meal. My girlfriends like the rockets as the best of their meal, they said the chicharrones pupusas were just ok, not very flavorful, whereas the rockets were just the opposite, flavorful and delicious. Third course garlic pepper shrimp and spicy chicken quesadilla with a side of black beans and ginger, cilantro, garlic corn. The shrimp were just skewered grilled shrimp with no seasoning, the black beans were sent back as they tasted straight out the can with tin taste and all, the spicy chicken quesadilla was also bland but the corn was a tasty bite. We also had the original margarita with jalapeños and la casa especial. The margaritas came in pretty glasses but none of the drinks were calling for a 2nd round.

I’d go back on a “slower ” night just to give it a real try, but it wouldn’t be at the top of my list of places to return to.

We stopped in for lunch at the bar. Our bartender, Chad, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and tequila. We loved the guacamole trio and the tamale with mole. The restaurant was bright and spacious. There is outdoor dining and in-street parking.

So, we tried out Agave, this new Mexican place in West Annapolis, and to be honest, we were left feeling a bit let down.

The place doesn’t take reservations which was a bummer, and a heads-up to the management – that might be something worth considering.

While waiting, I thought I’d give their $16 Frozen “Original Agave” Margarita a go, but it didn’t really hit the spot. It tasted more like a glass of icy water than anything else. When I mentioned it to the bartender, they said sometimes their fresh ingredients can be a bit bland. I get that, but it still didn’t make up for the taste or the price.

What was a bit disappointing was that no one really tried to make it right. Neither the bartender nor our waitress offered to replace my drink or come up with a solution.

Then there’s the food. An $80 tag for a two-person fajita is pretty high, and $8 for chips and salsa also seemed steep. Our fajitas came without the sides, and we had to wait another 10 minutes after flagging down a waitress to fix it.

The bathroom wasn’t the best either. No HVAC vent, and a hole in the ceiling that let in hot air didn’t make for the most comfortable trip.

So all in all, our time at Agave had some bumps. The service could’ve been better, and the prices felt a bit high. I know it’s a new place and they’re probably still working out the kinks, but there’s definitely room for improvement. I’m not trying to put anyone off from checking it out, just sharing our experience and hoping the folks at Agave can use the feedback to make things better. West Annapolis deserves a great Mexican spot that’s got good service, tasty food, and won’t break the bank.

For now, though, I’d say Agave is more of a 2-star experience. And if you’re looking for solid Mexican food without the hefty price tag, Chevys might be a safer bet.

went on a rainy Saturday afternoon for lunch – was not crowded at all and sat down right away. Service was good, the place was beautiful inside. Knocked to 4 stars due to prices being inconsistent with portions. Marg, cornbread, and corn soup were all very good. The size of the queso and quesadilla were so small for the price. From the other tables, it looked like the portion on guac was great, so would probably go back just for drinks and apps.
