Afghan food! : r/washingtondc – Reddit

In DC it’s Lapis . If you have a car, Afghan Bistro in Springfield VA is the best in the area.

What a delightful experience! The food was outstanding, the service was wonderful, and late on a Sunday night we had a slow and quiet dinner – it was perfect start to finish. We had the assorted dumplings and the Afghania flight (so much food!) and every single thing had its own flavor profile and every meat was perfectly tender. So so good. Try something new and spend an evening at this wonderful restaurant!

This place took the number one spot for best meat in DC. We got the Afghani Platter which was like a full 5 course meap that was totally worth it and filled us up and more. Their lamb is so incredibly tender and just falls off the bone so well. incredibly perfectly cooked steak as well. Just 10/10 no notes. Would come here again!

Went on Valentines Day. Food was delicious and large portions, we ended up sharing our dishes. Would recommend: lamb shank and vegetable flight. The sauces with the bread were very tasty as well. Was very crowded, of course it was due to the holiday, but the tables were crammed in the small space making it hard to move around.

This is NOT a sponsored ad! This food was wild!!!! Amazing! Revolutionary. I was honored to have indulged in this experience. I had the best basmati of my life, the pistachio cake and saffron tea were filled with passion. Even the squash on my plate was made me want to shed tears of joy. Words can’t do this place justice. The service was elite and I will never forget! Food and portions were perfect and man even the water changed my life.

Never really had afghan food before but happy went here. Was an overall great experience. Got the signature lamb, everything was good. Bread was good especially with sauce options. Came with our son, was a little nicer than kid
Restaurant but made due.

Amazing experience! My wife wanted to try Afghani food and has been craving lamb lately so this restaurant was a huge score. I lucked out at the start of the evening with finding a free parking spot about 2-3 blocks away and made my reservation time. We were immediately seated and found everyone (I mean everyone) to be so welcoming and heartfelt that we felt we were family. It’s very nice in the restaurant, with a setting perfect for taking someone special. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. Everything we tried was so good, with wonderful flavors. We couldn’t finish everything so we made sure to leave room for dessert while taking leftovers home. Do not let anything go to waste. We started with an assortment of dumplings, all of which were delicious in their own way (pumpkin, spicy beef, and leeks & scallions). The accompanying sauces were all wonderful, but the mango habanero was my favorite (and no, not too spicy). For my meal I tried the (veal) Afghanistan palou, which had a wonderful smokiness and the most amazing rice. My wife had lamb shank with a tomato based sauce, and loved it. We capped off our meal with a cardamom cake (tres leches style) and sheer birinj, a delicious rice pudding with light airy flavors.

If you want to impress your friends and family with an extravagant night of unique, delicious food at considerably reasonable prices, then look no further.

Forget about best afghan food, or even best middle-eastern food. This was some of the best FOOD I’ve ever had. The flavor profiles were stupendous and very unique. The bread served at the outset comes with four different sauces, each with their own flavor, and they are all delicious independently, and when mixed together. We also ordered the dumpling flight and each was fantastic in its own right. Their menu boasts a wealth of diverse selections, and includes robust vegetarian and vegan offerings.

The staff were prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere features a soft, dim light, with high-class embellishments like white table cloths and quality silverware, coupled with pleasant, upbeat, ambient music in the background.

Considering the overall experience, the average menu price is impressively reasonable. I have had less pleasant dining experiences for double the price at other locations. I highly recommend Afghania.

Special thanks to our waiter, Moa, who was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our visit. Highly recommended, and I will definitely come back again
