Don’t judge the place by the outside/view from the street. I’ll be honest, it doesn’t look great driving up but just look past all that and go inside for an unforgettable dinner.
For reference: We drove 2 hours from NJ to come to New Haven for the day. Our purpose was to try Sally’s/Franks but after trying Sally’s and being disappointed, we ended up here for some truly outstanding Italian food. We were beyond full but still went to Franks after
Overall we had a great time and although we did not get a happy birthday song from staff the people in our dining area made the evening great.
Service was excellent and I appreciated the linen, candle and reasonable noise level. I found the tables really jammed together (and no where to put coats).
He really never came to check on us but he checked on another table that wasn’t his. Go figure! Who knows what was going through his mind. One thing I will say is that I normally top very well in cash but he got the bare minimum that the industry says it should be and on my card so it will be taxed. Oh well next time pay attention!
However, the food was mediocre. The pasta was extremely bland. The ribeye lacked salt and was fattier than anticipated (for a ribeye). We didn’t like the blossoms. We did, however, thoroughly enjoy the lamb, calamari, and fried mozzarella.
Our server was very friendly and provided recommendations – she had great knowledge of the menu. She was very sharp and had an amazing attitude!
The atmosphere was quiet as we visited on a Tuesday night and were the only party seated in our area. I wouldn’t return based on the food the day we visited. But I would recommend based on the serving sizes and the quality of service provided. There’s also plenty of parking in the free lot outside.
Out appetizer was stuffed squash blossoms which were 10/10! Awesome cheeses and herbs stuffed inside of a fresh squash blossom that was perfectly fried! Add some of the side sauce with a bite of the squash blossom and you get near perfection.
Entrees were spectacular. The ribeye was cooked to a perfect rare as ordered and the crust was awesome! Potatoes and veggies were very good too but the star was the ribeye. The best steak I have ever been served in the New Haven area in 38 years! The shrimp and clams fra diavolo over fettuccine special was spectacular ‼️ Fresh pasta, insanely good sauce with beautiful little necks and snappy shrimp.
The meal was served by an awesome waiter who was very attentive, friendly and accurate.
This meal was a 10/10!!
