picked up a loaf of sourdough at whitt’s (review for those good folks next).
THE SETUP:
i lived in the city (aka san francisco) for most of the 90’s until 2001. since then, i’ve lived in austin, houston, kansas city, and new orleans before coming to sharps chapel to assist my elderly mom. for over two decades, not one bakery could i find who could do sourdough properly.
then i discovered adorno’s in a tennessee magazine article. in it, the author talks up the owner/baker’s past in san francisco and how she now makes the bread here. the article informed the reader that she’s named sierra.
there’s a name proving her bay area provenance. and probably hippie parents.
i knew this stuff would be great.
THE WRAP-UP:
picked up a loaf at whitt’s and immediately had a bite. NOW THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT! real sourdough leaves a sourdoughery taste in your mouth after you swallow. if it doesn’t do that, it’s shit.
the opposite of that is sierra’s sourdough. ten bucks for home baked real stuff supporting a local not some corporate crap? that’s a huge win for everybody.
do yourself a favor and get some adorno’s sourdough (also in bagels and probably more breadified applications). it’s worth it.
