Love their story it is so inspiring.. and give a new meaning to when pigs fly. With both of us from Cincinnati, it makes us smile thinking about the saying.
If you are ever in the area make time to visit our friend here and support the local.
I’m a Starbucks fan and decided I wanted to go here instead
My family and I have been frequent customers to Adam’s Flying Pig Coffee Shop since they opened. We were thrilled to learn that they were opening a new location in Minford. My husband loves to get the Flying Pig Mocha- their most popular drink. My drink of choice is the frozen hot chocolate made with almondmilk with extra chocolate drizzle. I also love getting their avocado toast. We typically bring our dog to enjoy one of their pup cups too! My son and I encountered a very scary situation on February 27th of this year. We never had an issue in the years we frequented the coffee shop. My son has very, very severe life threatening food allergies. He is allergic to milk, eggs, peanut, and tree nuts (except for almond- he outgrew that one, yay!). We were put to ease at the Wheelersburg location when they first opened. They explained that our son could have a chocolate milk made with almondmilk. Their chocolate syrup is free of his food allergies. We were so excited and happy for him because he was never able to have a special drink made for him until now. Any way, on February 27th, my son and I went to the Minford location through the drive thru. I asked for a chocolate milk made with almondmilk. My throat was sore that day, and since we never had an issue, I felt confident he wouldn’t have an accidental ingestion. I handed him his chocolate milk without tasting it. He says “Mom, this milk tastes weird.” Luckily, he only took less than half a drink and didn’t swallow much, but it was too late. His throat began to get very scratchy and he was getting hives all over his body. We never have had to use his epi pens in his life and he is currently 9 years old. My husband and I have been very vigilant about his food allergies since day one and my son is super aware of them as well. I had to make several phone calls to his Allergist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I monitored his symptoms. He was afraid he was going to die. I did my best to put his mind at ease. His reaction thankfully wasn’t severe enough to use his epi pens, but we had to give the maximum allowed dosage of benadryl. It was a very scary day to say the least. I believe that if you are working in the food industry, you need to be very vigilant and understanding of food allergies and awareness. My son has every right to treat himself to a special drink just like everyone else. This was our only issue we have ever had here. I know it was just a simple human error, but it could have potentially costed my son his life had he ingested more of the milk. My son is too afraid to get a drink from here because of this situation. Onto the rest of my review, as other reviewers have mentioned, there is typically a long wait time in the drive thru. However, I believe whole heartedly in supporting local businesses and i will spend some extra time in the drive thru line as long as my schedule permits me to do so. Overall, we love Adam’s Flying Pig. Just like any other restaurant/coffee shop, I believe there needs to be some vigilant training put in place when it comes to food allergies. As an allergy mom, it would make me feel a lot better knowing that the staff serving my son understand the dangers he faces on a daily basis.
