As a visitor from Kansas City, I stopped by Abuelo’s at the Wichita Waterfront and had a fantastic dining experience. The restaurant’s atmosphere was one of the first things I noticedn, warm, vibrant, and welcoming. It strikes a perfect balance between upscale and comfortable, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal.
I ordered the chicken quesadilla, the dip sampler, and the beef empanadas and every single dish hit the mark. The quesadilla was crisp and packed with flavorful chicken, while the dip sampler offered a great mix of fresh, bold flavors. The beef empanadas were especially memorable, with a rich, savory filling and perfectly golden pastry. Clearly, the kitchen knows what it’s doing.
One hiccup: I was initially seated at a dirty table by the host. While that was a bit off-putting, the situation was quickly resolved, and thankfully it didn’t define the rest of my experience.
What truly stood out was the exceptional service from my server, Alondra. It was her very first day serving at this location, but you wouldn’t have known it. She was professional, attentive, and genuinely kind; checking in just the right amount and making sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. Her enthusiasm and care really elevated the entire experience.
All in all, Abuelo’s delivered an excellent visit. Great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding service from Alondra made it a place I’d happily return to the next time I’m in Wichita. Highly recommended!

Great service and a wonderful, classy atmosphere. El Jeffe margaritas are where it is at! Coming from San Antonio antonio, we’re pretty picky about Mexican food, but Abuelos didn’t disappoint.

Very nicely decorated and comfortable. Our waitress did a spectacular job, she was friendly & very attentive. The chips are very good, 3 different options of salsa were brought out, the tomatillo salsa is my favorite. I chose the chicken fajitas, as great choice, large portion, very good flavors. In our group of 4, everyone was pleased with their order. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Always a great experience at Abuelos. The food is always incredible. The dip trio is the way to go for a starter. We hit up happy hour and the frozen margaritas was incredible too. Service definetly felt a bit lacking the night we went, but we have also had far better service there in the past. Will be back!

A bit on the expensive side of mexican restaurants, but the food is great, and the atmosphere is authentic. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars, is because the food didn’t really seem worth the expensive price. It was delicious, but not necessarily worth what we paid. Overall, I would go here again, but not very often due to price.

It is always helpful when a restaurant will accommodate a large group. Abuelo’s had a section for us set aside in their beautiful restaurant. This is the second time that we have used this restaurant to recognize our employee and will definitely use them again. There were many, many choices on the menu some of the regular Mexican fare and many different selections. The service was solid, the waiters were very attentive and efficient just lacked personality. The food was fantastic and was all delivered to everyone within minutes of other. This place is definitely on my recommend list.

My boyfriend and I ordered Tacos and Enchiladas, but we couldn’t get any service from Maria. She seemed to forget she had tables to wait as she chatted at the bar. We only had one refil on our drinks our entire visit, too.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the server cleaning the table next to me just about gassed me out of the room spraying WAY too much cleaner. I’m lucky my food was in a box by that point or it would have been covered in chemicals.
Last but not least, we had to wait 15 minutes for our server to shut up and get back to work long enough to take care of our bill.

Our server Carlos was prompt, friendly and professional. We both had enchilada combos with beans and rice. The cheese enchiladas were quite good. Beef was also quite good. Sour cream and chicken enchilada was good but could use more sour cream. Restaurant was not crowded. I assume this is because Abuelos is pricey compared to the local competitors. Guac app was excellent.

Such a pretty place! The inside is very open and nice. The servers always do a great job. Very well trained. I love the mild salsa. It is smokey and had a chipotle pepper flavor to it. The spicy cheese dip is not very spicy but it is delicious. I loved my fried smothered burrito. My husband loved his food.
