So… mixed bag
The atmosphere is beautiful, I love the statue and the ceiling painting that makes it look like the sky
The tortilla chips and three salsas are a good start
The trio dip sampler had good flavor. The big downside was that the guacamole bowl was mostly full of lettuce, with some guacamole on top. It felt deceptive, even if I understand the idea of food cost. A smaller bowl honestly would have been better, because with all of that lettuce, it would be impossible to scoop down into the guac and get all of it (as little as there was)
The berry Paloma was refreshing and tasty
The fajitas trio had a fair bit of food. All three meats were very tender and cooked nicely. The shrimp and chicken had good flavor, although the steak was lacking flavor (I wound up putting salt on mine, which I rarely do)
Oddly, they only included 2 small tortillas for the fajitas. I don’t know if that was an oversight or normal
The cheesecake was very tasty, definitely recommend. Odd choice to give me a plastic fork for eating it, but I just snagged a regular fork and that was fine
The server was earnest and charming. Went out of his way to try to make the experience good at first, and tried to fix the issues with the guacamole. Downside, he did forget to bring refills on water throughout the meal, so that took a while
All in all… I’m glad I tried it, and I don’t think I’ll be going back, based on this experience and a bunch of friends saying they’ve had unimpressive experiences there too

I am a local and really wanted to love this place. My girlfriends and I came in for dinner before a movie. The beginning of our dining experience was okay, I had a sangria, my girlfriends asked for the $6 house margarita special. We socialized and had some appetizers before ordering our meals. Our waitress was young and you could tell not very experienced as we had to ask for refills/drinks every time. Food arrives and I ordered the fajita trio with the steak cooked medium rare. Steak was cooked well done. The manager came over and had it cooked again for us but it was not good so she took the meal off our bill. If not for the manager this review would be lower. When our bills came my friends were charged 9.50 per margarita, when we said something to her she said that’s the large. We suggested she let others know going forward that the drinks are not $6. The waitress was rude and dismissed our suggestion. There are too many issues to list with the waitress. Overall the food was good excluding the fajitas. I would recommend the cheese dip.

It looks super fancy but the prices are good. Very cool interesting looking inside love the wall art and the whole vibe. The food is amazing! Chips are always warm and fresh, and they have amazing dips for free 3 different flavors one is made with pineapple it’s amazing! Service was very friendly. Prices good, food extremely fresh. Serving sizes were big. All around great place to go.

Totally recommend Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant. After the long drive from Linwood, NC we were hungry and wanted to eat before heading to the Resort to check in. I found this gem on Google Maps and I am glad we went. This was a great way to end the day with a Birthday Dinner. The Fajita Trio was great, Raspberry Hibiscus Margarita was probably the best Margarita I have ever had, and my complimentary Birthday Flan was almost too pretty to eat but sooooo delicious.

Our server tracy was the absolute best! So sweet and patient. She gave us so many options and was just phenomenal!! the food unfortunately wasnt amazing, the menu is slightly confusing and on the nachos we expected more of a nacho cheese than what looked like plastic packaged shredded cheese. Also we didnt see a option on the menu that said what the food was garnished with, that would be helpful to have! 🙂 but our server was so delightful and happy! 10/10 service

Every worker here is so kind and working very hard! Our server was Josue, he had our food out in 15 minutes. Everything was correct and SO good.
We debated on where to go for dinner as we’re on vacation and I’m so happy I chose this place! This will be where we come every time we visit.

Stopped here for an early lunch on 5/1/25.
We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was polite and efficient. We were given the appropriate amount of time to check out the menu.
The restraunt area was beautifully done. It felt like an outside veranda. The bar section was quite large also and looked like a great place too.
Ww were served chips with 3 styles of salsa. The chips were crisp and the salsas tasty. I had the Chili Relleno (cheese) & enchilada while my wife did the enchilada lunch. Both dishes were excellent. The dishes came with Mexican rice and refried beans. Everything was excellently done. Best Mexican I’ve had in a long time.

I chose this place because it was at the top of my search. The place is beautiful, but the food is no good. We eat mexican food on a regular, my husband is half hispanic. we go in to these restaurants not expecting authentic, but i would not consider this a mexican restaurant. The cheese is not your normal queso, its yellow and tastes like velveeta, my 2 kids ordered ACP and did not touch it, my husband and I ordered fajitas trio for 2, very bland, the shrimp has been cooked way to long, the best thing we had on our table was the free green salsa, i left so disappointed and didnt take anything with me. The waitress was nice but It was a waste of a $100 bill. Dont do it!!

AWESOME MENU!!! Really first class, top shelf Mexican restaurant. Chips were very good! Big portions and a different menu was a super nice surprise. Very elegant inside and enticing. I give it a 12 from the 1-10 scale… Probably the best beans I ever had too! I had a steak that was perfect it’s hard to believe. Marinated and so tender. So flavorful!!!
