Just what I needed today. Snowy and cold outside, wonderful food inside. I had the chile relleno plate. The salsas were a fun addition. The horchata would be worth a trip on its own!!!

I’ve found my new food obsession! The Hot Cheeto Burrito here is an absolute must-try. My tip: swap out the fries for rice and beans inside the texture is perfection. I leveled mine up by getting it smothered in rich, velvety queso, and honestly, it’s a total flavor explosion. If you’re looking for your next ‘guilty pleasure’ meal, this is it. You won’t regret it!
My fiancé enjoyed his Mexican plate ️ Photo attached

I order the same thing from abelardos everytime, not cuz everything else isn’t bomb but because they make the best adobado torta i’ve ever had. I smother it with red sauce and i add shrimp. It’s so good. Their drinks are made themselves their Horchata, Piña and Jamaica. Each are super good. This restaurant is definitely my go to hispanic spot because how homey it feels. I’ve never had good of a grub from anywhere else. 10/10 you must try it!

My all time favorite place to eat in Ames. Only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, is because I have had issues in the past with them following specific instructions in the past. Other then that, they have not only improved in that category… but absolutely such good food!

Food was alright. I ordered the two chicken burritos combination plate, but they gave me beef instead. There wasn’t any lettuce or anything inside the burrito than meat and cheese, and I wish it was seasoned better. Rice was alright and beans were okay but needed seasoning. The saving grace here though was the hot sauce. The red hot sauce certainly adds in the extra star to make it three stars!

So glad that Abelardo’s opened a chain in Ames (located at where the Long John Silver’s used to be). I can finally get my fix of chorizo and egg burrito for breakfast without having to go all the way down to Des Moines. I have to admit though, the West Des Moines chain still have the best breakfast tacos, but who has the time to drive all the way to WDM on a Saturday morning… Having grown up in Southern California, I can attest to the quality of Abelardo’s carne asada fries (it’s called “super fries” on the menu). It tastes just like home, except I recommend subbing in the adobada for meat. Given that we’re in Iowa, Abelardo’s adobada (made from carne/pork) is to die for, and it goes well with anything on their menu (tacos, burritos, super fries/nachos). The other thing that I recommend is their avocado salsa. It’s like guacamole, except 10 times better (and spicy too!). The service is friendly, the drive-thru intercom works, and the decor… well, it’s typical Mexican fast food/grease grill. Beware of the slow wait time after ordering, they cook everything fresh after ordering.

This was our first time eating at Abelardo’s. The Tuesday 5 taco deal was really good. My daughter and I shared 5 chicken tacos with fried taco shells and a side order of rice. They have complimentary chips and salsa, with several varieties of salsa. Everything was delicious. We will definitely come again.

My first experience with Abelardo’s is a “can’t wait to come back” winner! The picture menu in the drive through was very helpful and my food looked just like the picture. The tortillas were grilled and strong enough to hold the generous and delicious chicken fajita, which was spicy enough to get my attention but not overwhelming. Most refried beans are a mere afterthought, but not these. Mui bueno!!

Food is overall decent, and the prices for the portions are better than most places. Tend to order from here pretty often and will probably keep doing so:)
