Aappakadai was started with the thought of introducing the taste and flavors of Aappam to Northern California, United States. Aappakadai was started with a small team of experienced chefs who are passionate about South Indian Chettinad Food. The recipes of Aappakadai come from the spice racks of the Grandmother. Traditionally fresh and hot home-made ‘Aappam’ were sold by Aappakadai as a breakfast dish in the streets of Chettinad. ‘Aappam’ is a specialty dish from the Chettinad, made of fermented rice flour. Traditionally Aappam is served with coconut milk. But Aappakadai serves Aappam with various Chettinad spicy dishes like Goat Paaya.

I placed a take out order and they messed it up. I ordered a Paneer Manchurian but they gave me a Gobi Manchurian. I ordered a Schezhuan Vegetable Noodles and Chicken noodles. They prepared the base noodles and sauce for both orders and gave me the veggie noodles with no vegetables and it was bland. I called the hotel to complain about it and they said they need to talk to their boss/owner. I asked him to give me the owners number and I reached out to him. I shared the pics on WhatsApp and he said he will immediately talk to the hotel manager and call me back but he never did. I asked him for an update on WhatsApp but he never responded. (Note: I couldn’t go to the hotel because I was sick and I mentioned this to the owner as well).
Similarly we ordered parotta few months back and they gave me a readymade parotta. I called them to clarify but they denied it. We had to throw the food because it wasn’t appetizing. I didn’t visit this place for a while due to this incident but had to order last week since the family was craving for Indian food.
It took 30 mins to pack a takeout. And quantity was less.
The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Chicken 65 and Chicken Chettinad. The flavors were rich and authentic, showcasing the chef’s mastery in blending spices. Each bite was a burst of deliciousness that left us craving for more.
What truly stood out was the store manager/owner’s personal touch. They took the time to visit each and every table, ensuring that guests were enjoying their dining experience. Their genuine concern for customer satisfaction was evident as they asked for feedback and if anything else was needed. It made us feel valued and appreciated as customers.
Overall, our visit to the Aappakadai restaurant was an absolute delight. The combination of delectable food, inviting ambiance, and the warm, attentive staff created a memorable evening. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic Indian culinary experience coupled with exceptional customer service.
1) all the chutneys are pretty cold and no way they are made fresh for the day.
2) none of chutneys, sambhar and potato curry has any flavor in it. No spice or salt. The tomato chutney feels like a tomato puree with vinegar.
3) fresh dosa is a joke. Seriously. If you ask for a Mysore masala dosa, they give you a plain dosa. And ask you to take the potato curry from the buffet. And it’s up to us to imagine that it is a Mysore masala dosa that we are eating.
4) the pooris are refilled very few at a time. When refilled, you can see the race from the customers to get the sparesely filled pooris.
I am not coming back to this place again. Oh btw, despite all this, if one is still tipping, at least have the courtesy to say thank you.
Varieties of Soups, starters both veg & non veg, south Indian tiffin, north Indian snacks, main course curries Veg & Non Veg, rice items like Biriyanis , chapatis, roti ,Naan, deserts and drinks are available.
We ordered Chicken 65, Nethili fry. Gobi manchuria, Appam with Chicken curry. All items were tasty and good. Finished with Indian child drink famous ThumpsUp. Nice experience and will definitely recommend.
Paratha with chicken gravy- Paratha was nice but chicken gravy was ok as it lacked in flavor, could be better. We liked the ambiance, prices were reasonable, restrooms were clean, quick service.
