I came for oxtails but they are only available on Friday which sucks because it should be clearly posted. I drove almost an hour for nothing! Although I decided to get the catfish plate which was bland, $21+ for bland is crazy. Don’t waste your time or money I could definitely cook better fried fish at home. That damn lemonade is tooo sweet. Ewww

Today was my first time walking into this restaurant, and before I could even get my bearings, a gentleman greeted me by my first name. I was confused for a second — turns out he was joking and said I looked like a celebrity. Instant icebreaker. I was laughing before I even ordered.
From there, the men behind the counter treated me like the uncle who hadn’t seen me in years and wanted to make sure I left full. The energy, the spirit, the hospitality — it all felt genuine. Not forced. Not corporate. Just real.
And then there was the food.
I’m convinced they’ve got all their grandmas in the back cooking. It was that good. I ordered the smothered oxtail over white rice and gravy with sweet potatoes, seasoned collards, mac & cheese, cornbread, dessert, and a drink. When I first saw the prices, I thought, “Okay… a little steep.” Then they brought out the plate. The portion sizes were insane.
I was overwhelmed — in the best way possible. And I’m ashamed to admit I couldn’t stop eating until it was gone.
I don’t live anywhere near this place, and honestly, that’s probably a blessing because I’d gain 10 pounds in two weeks. But it’s officially on my must-have list anytime I’m in the area.
Everything I look for in a restaurant was here — flavor, portions, and amazing hospitality.
I’ll absolutely be back.

We were visiting from Austin and wanted to go to another soul food spot(I won’t mention the name) but was told that spot isn’t that good anymore but A Taste of Ways was the place to go. So we were talked into going. I was not disappointed. I personally had the chicken fried chicken which was amazing. I did sample the other plates as well. The smoked wings were flavorful with a great smoke taste. All sides were on point but the greens. They were good but I’m just very picky on how I like my greens. They serve Kool-Aid. The tea might be flavored. I got sweet tea but didn’t know it was flavored. I don’t like flavored tea. I would recommend going out your way to try this place.

I really want to give this place 5 stars because my experience was not always bad. I decided to make a drop in back to back because you can get good soul food for good price. Customer service is important and the old lady in the front was rude and lacks professionalism. As I try to always support black businesses, but she was extremely inappropriate.

I’ve been here twice and have not been disappointed! The smoked oxtails are absolutely phenomenal, I wish they had them more often!! I went on a Tuesday and had the smothered pork steak on rice, cabbage and black eyed peas and my plate was delicious! Good portion sizes! My only “gripe” (if this even counts) is the sweetness of the lemonade and Koolaid! It’s good but just way too sweet LOL …other than that, a really nice restaurant serving hot home cooked food that I will always visit when I’m in the area! The staff is very nice and friendly, which is a nice bonus because black-owned businesses struggle with customer service! Friendly, clean and tasty!

Let’s start off with entering this business… First the smell of that good ole home cooking slapped us in the face. We were greeted and notified of daily specials. I tried the baked chicken with rice, yams and green beans/roll while my wife had Smothered gizzards with rice, black eyed peas and cabbage/cornbread. The portion size is enough to eat NOW AND LATER! The food was AMAZING and let me tell you bout that KOOL AID… just like the old days!!! This meal definitely came with a pillow because I went to sleep after I left !!!

Stopped by this place for the first time which looked closed. Walked in and spoke to the staff, “nobody spoke back!” There were no customers inside but they were very slow to help us. They asked no questions or made any suggestions considering it was my first visit. As for choices, options were very limited and food looked old. I was unable to select anything from the menu they had posted because they had basically shut down their kitchen and it was only in the 6 o’clock hour(PM). We ordered anyways based on what little they had available. Crazy thing is, trying to support black owned businesses at times remains me why I go else where. The rudeness these people showed is a prime example of why their business looks like a little shack instead of something more attractive. It was my first and last visit because people spending their hard earned money in someone’s establishment should be more appreciated. If you enjoy being overlooked while spending your precious dollars, “this is the place!” SMH…

Family of 5 ordered 3 smoked and 2 smothered oxtail plates. Everything was delicious
Well seasoned, tender, and filling. Almost decided not to go based on service reviews, but so glad we did. We were greeted upon entry, menu was explained, and everyone was courteous.

Today a client treated me to lunch at this establishment. I got the turkey wings over rice, sweet potatoes, black eye peas and corn bread. Also have a cup of kool-aid and a huge slice of chocolate cake. Everything was hands down the best soul food on this side of town. I litterly have enough food for 2 days. Will definitely visit again.
