I discovered A Taste of the Island by accident a few months back and I have been on it ever since. Every time I go, the service is good. The food is fresh, and the price point is a great value for the portion size and quality of food.

My go-to quick meal is a Beef Patty with Coco Bread. Now, the beef patties are good and flavorful so you gotta get them early as they usually run out during the day (I get two when I go). The coco bread is always thick, fresh and very buttery. It is great by itself as well as with the patty.

For a main entreè my go-to is the Brown Stew Chicken with Rice and Peas and Steamed Cabbage. Babeeeeeeee. It is a 10/10 every single time. It’s never a miss. The chicken is meaty, well flavored, and perfectly tender. The rice and peas are flavor and tender and hiit even harder with that brawn stew gravy. And that cabbage! My my my, this is steamed cabbage done right.

I’m on a personal mission to try everything at A Taste of the Island, however, the Brown Stew Chicken has me in a hold at the moment. LoL!!!

I literally just ordered jerk chicken lunch special, and my chicken was old and hard. My food was not hot and the sauce they gave me on the side was cold. Then to top it off if you wanted plantain it was an extra $5 which I declined. I asked for hot sauce, and they were out of that! If I had time, I would have gone back to tell them, so letting them and you all know here.

Food is mediocre at best. I had the curry chicken, with rice and cabbage, not fresh at all. Music too loud. My friend ordered the fried chicken wings, they murdered them hard and burnt. Nothing write home. $40 DOLLARS WORTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT.

The food tasted good. I had the curry chicken and white rice with cabbage and a beef patty. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was very little gravy. The chicken tasted good but had almost no gravy on it. The patty was good and perhaps the best thing I got. It’s attached to a gas station which I was not expecting but the cashier was friendly. Overall I like it. Not the very best in the metro area but pretty good.

A colleague and I were looking for a local place for lunch. He had never tried island food and suggested A Taste of the Island. Great choice! We both had jerked chicken. The flavor was great, the portions are big and the staff was very friendly.

Myself and my husband just got food from there today 12/28/24 @ 6:01 p.m. The young man working had an attitude. When we ordered our food we asked to have oxtail gravy on our rice, my husband even asked to buy a cup of the gravy. Out comes my food I ordered the medium rib plate, it looked like a small and I was charged $17.24 for this plate, and when he showed my plate there was ni oxtail gravy. So I asked if I could get gravy on my rice, he caught an attitude. We will not be back, always trying to support the people and get ripped off& attitudes

Asked to sample the oxtails because they only offer one size for $33 and I wasn’t about to spend that without tasting them first. Lady brought out a sample after 10 mins and I thought they tasted okay, but I wasn’t spending $33. I asked for the curry chicken lunch special instead with oxtail gravy on the rice and another lady claimed they don’t do that. I asked, well can you put it on the side in a container? I’ll pay $2-$3 more and she claimed, they don’t do that there. I was appalled. I explained to her, I’m from Miami, FL and every Jamaican restaurant I’ve ever been to never had a problem with such request! I was so disgusted, I just walked out and went to the establishment next door. I will never visit this place again. The first time I went couple months back, I had to constantly call them to see when they were opening and I sat in my vehicle from 11am – 11:30am and no one had arrived to open up! That should have taught me this was not a place to revisit.

Best place to eat in the immediate area without a doubt with healthiest good choices. Could easily happily eat here everyday for lunch instead of waffle House or all the fried food at the wing place next door. 5/5
