Ok, so it actually tasted good but…about an inch of straight up dough and almost no toppings, just sauce. Probably only reason it has some taste. Definitely not worth the price and the 4.7. I had the animal medium. See images…

We were not as impressed as some. I made the mistake of ordering “crispy” which according to the dude making the pies is the same thing as well done, which in the case of my two pies meant essentially nearly burnt cheese around the perimeter. This also cooked most of the pepperoni in to pepperoni “crisps”! Not what I was looking for. I probably wont order more, but if I did I would know better next time.
The reason the pepperoni got over done beyond not realizing “crispy” was the same as “well done”, is the way they build these pies is bread, then cheese then toppings, then AFTER the pizza is baked they ladle stripes of the sauce down the pie (these were red sauce pizzas). This leaves pepperoni directly exposed to the baking heat with not much moisture to protect them.
I ordered a custom build and a PPP. I couldn’t taste the pineapple on the PPP and the custom build (no pineapple but sausage and onions added) didn’t taste much different than the PPP except it had sausage on it. The toppings were a muddled flavor profile overpowered by the burnt cheese and the Asiago, which is grated fresh over top and “smelly feet” level “funky”. If I were to order again I would ask to hold the Asiago. I like parm, but Asiago is too much for us.
These pies are a loaf of bread with some cheese, topping and sauce. The bread/crust tastes good and the sauce is pretty good too. I didn’t find the pies to be tiny like others reviewed, just a LOT of bread/carbs.
The sauce on top after baking makes freezing leftovers tricky. We always buy more than we will eat, freeze and reheat another day, and it works well. We wanted to use-up two coupons we bought at half price because we are not always in the Hollymead area and wanted to be done with them. I separated the remaining pizza, froze the pieces individually on a sheet pan, then bagged and noted to remove from the bag for thawing, otherwise the sauce will stick to the bag.
Many other people clearly love this pizza, I’m just reviewing our experience. I think these pies are likely best fresh out of the oven. Sadly there is no seating inside if you wanted to do that.
Look how burnt the cheese perimeter is in my pic below. Not good eats. I cut all of that off before freezing. Don’t order crispy or well done if you dont want that…or maybe the dude (nice enough guy) simply over-baked them?

I love a pizza that’s not afraid to go hard on the sauce. Excellent crust, good flavor, and it was ready on time. We’ll be back if passing through town again.

Amazing experience. We built our own pizza with sausage, green pepper, red onion, and hot honey—absolutely fantastic. The focaccia-style crust was beyond delicious and clearly homemade with care and high-quality ingredients. My wife ate more pizza than I’ve ever seen, which says everything. You can tell every detail is made in-house, right down to the ranch dressing. This is officially our new favorite pizza place in Charlottesville.

No indoor seating but very friendly inside. Food was made to order, so fresh, and so delicious. Great flavors, and the best homemade ranch… The owner said a medium usually feeds two, but we could only finish 1-2 slices each and will happily have some leftovers for later.

This pizza is absolutely amazing from the light airy crust to the wonderful sauce and perfect toppings. We froze leftovers and later thawed then reheated in a toaster oven, and the results were almost as good as fresh!
Service was p prompt and friendly. This pizza would be great for a sit down experience!

I had heard of the popularity of this new Detroit pizza spot and decided to go early, near opening. This pizza was OUTSTANDING. Premium ingredients and the textures were out of this world. (The crispy edges tho!)
