Nice BYOB Italian joint. Two Pre fix menus. The food is very good; but like most places these days the entrees do not stand up to the appetizers. They were the only disappointment.

I visited A Mano for the first time on Valentine’s Day. I made a reservation 46 hours early. To my surprise, after booking the reservation and confirming that a fee would be needed if cancelling, I received a notification that said only the Valentine’s Day meal for $95 per person would be served. This information was not on their website or social media, and typically the 4 course meal is $68 rather than $95. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was clear that they had booked too many tables. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time, and the servers were sprinting from table to table just trying to keep up. We had a nice candlelit table, and I enjoyed the open kitchen setup. However, the open kitchen allowed me to see a server touch every piece of bread that went out to the tables and never wash her hands. It took 2.5 hours to get through 4 courses. The food was well cooked with minimal flavor. The building itself was not in good shape. The ceiling was damaged and the electrical outlet in the bathroom seemed to be a fire hazard. Overall, a disappointing Valentine’s Day dinner.

My wife and her parent were in Philly for the evening and wanted to get some food. We found this place on Google and it looked great. The food was delicious, and I like the idea of one price for 3 or 4 courses. The only down side was the atmosphere. We went at night and it was very dark. The lights were so dim that we couldn’t see the menu or some of the food, so we had to use our phone flashlights to see things. We weren’t the only ones either. We did ask if the lights could be turned up, but that didn’t happen, most likely that it couldn’t be changed.

My friends and I selected the 3 course experience, and were pretty satisfied with everything. I would say that everything that I have tried were in between great and excellent, and even if nothing was exceedingly spectacular, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a pleasant Italian food experience!

The peach panzanella and the roasted beets were both pretty good, with the beets having enough whipped ricotta and vinaigrette to remove the beets’ earthy flavor. I had the rigatoni bolognese for primi, and the pasta was very al dente, which was a plus! The sauce was a bit soupy, and sometimes it was a bit difficult to get the sauce on the rigatoni, but in terms of taste, it definitely had a good amount of flavor. Out of all the primi we have had, mine had the largest portion, and I was a bit surprised at the portion size for the potato gnocchi and the squid ink lumache. The roasted beets also had a very small size, which surprised me as well.

In terms of dessert, my friend thought the honey rosemary panna cotta was too sweet, while I thought the tiramisu had a very strong espresso flavor and the ladyfinger at the bottom was a bit too wet. But the mascarpone ratio was good and it still tasted good enough.

Service and atmosphere were both great! Our waiter was very attentive to our needs, and made a conscious effort to ensure our orders were correct. The place also had good decor and a good vibe for dates for those that are interested!

Really fantastic little BYOB on Fairmount. Delicious food, excellent service. Pasta, well everything, is cooked perfectly. The tiramisu is not my favorite but I know that my tiramisu taste tends toward the more creamy. Good bread, which is important to me.

The Prix fixe value is excellent, 3 or 4 courses. You will not go hungry.

So happy it’s in my neighborhood.

Went back recently. The place needs a refresh. Tables look like they’ve been chewed by a pack of dogs. The walls need to be painted. The wine glasses, in the right light, looked downright dirty. The bolognese was barely bolognese. If you want to sell, please just sell.

My son and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. My son started with the pork belly with chickpeas, and I started with the peach Panzanella salad. Both were absolutely phenomenal. Our second dish was a pasta dish and my son had a cavatelli with broccoli Rabe and I had a Squid ink lumachi frutti de Mare. My pasta was a tad undercooked, and my sauce was a little sweet. That would be my only complaint with my dish. We then shared the pork shank, which was super tender and fall off the bone. For dessert, we had a Panna cotta and a olive oil lemon cake that was wonderful. For the amount of money that this restaurant charges it’s worth every penny. There are restaurants that are twice as expensive that are not nearly as good

I was a little disappointed. The staff were courteous and attentive, but we were seated right next to the kitchen in a very cramped seat/booth combo. I had the burrata appetizer that was served “fall style”. The squash/jam accompanying it were good, but the breadcrumbs tasted like uncooked Stove Top Stuffing. My date’s pork belly was good, but the SEA of chickpeas it was floating in were overkill. The pasta course was decent: My saffron rotolo had a nice saffron-flavor and the rigatoni bolognese had a nice dollop of ricotta but was a tad al dente, given the thickness of hte rigatoi. Dessert was fine, but nothing great—an okay tiramasu and a better lemon olive oil cake (although a tiny slice). Not bad before the Haunted Prison, but I wouldn’t eat there again.

Food is delicious!
Ambiance very nice!
Only complaint is that the 2nd course came out before we finished the first course!

Should not happen at a high priced restaurant with Townsend Wentz credentials!

Okay I will start off by saying I have an inherent bias. I loved this place. It was my first date with my husband and that is why my review is probably nicer than deserved.

This place is just not what it used to be. The pastry chef is the only one keeping this place going.

Pork belly appetizer was well overcooked. Beef tartare was for people who don’t like tartare—too many capers, too much going on. Pasta rotolo was overcooked. (This used to be one of the best things on the menu) The gnocchi was delicious and stole the show. Pork shank was wrong. Should fall off the bone not be pried off. Chicken milanese—was not chicken milanese. I have had ALL these items in past years and they were delicious so I don’t know what happened.

Olive oil cake, was one of the best ones I have had in the city.

Service was excellent. Meal was unfortunately quite bad.

A mano, do better. I know you can.
