It was cold so I stopped in for warm food and maybe a beer. The shepherds pie is phenomenal. I’m a shepherds pie connoisseur. I’ve had shepherds pie it in probably 30 different places, and some of those were over the continental US., and this place is it. The right amount of meat pie under a bed of perfectly layered mashed potatoes. Pretty expensive per person overall, but that’s the time we live in. If the food is good, I won’t complain about anything else. Lana is a gem.

Wow, first stop on my weeklong trip in Chicago, and I landed at the perfect spot to watch the game. Beautiful bar, comfortable, the staff was friendly, the food was good, and I felt very at home, since the Steelers were playing the Packers. Will return!

This spot has a lively pub atmosphere that makes it a fun place to catch a game with friends. The menu offers plenty of comfort food favorites, and the drinks are always flowing. The staff is welcoming, and the overall vibe is relaxed and social.

Came in today 2/19/26 for the first time. Dropped over $50.00 on lunch and two beers First bartender was great. Prompt and friendly. Food came out and was decent, however the fries need some serious attention.
I ordered a black and tan and snake Bite however I received only black and tans. The beers were poorly poured, roughly an inch of Guinness and the rest of the glass was harp or something similar.

The first bartender was soon replaced by this lady with reddish hair, pony tail. This person changed the vibe and whole first time experience. Poor attitude and not friendly at all.
When I payed and put my more than generous cash tip out for the bartenders she didn’t even say thank you or thank you for coming in. I almost asked for my tip back because of her unfavorable behavior. She did not deserve a single cent of that money.

Better options and friendlier places to go and spend your hard earned money. Don’t spend it on unappreciative people like her or patronage a place that allows employees to act like this.

I definitely do not recommend this establishment.

AJ’s Public House in Chicago was an absolute highlight of our trip. I ordered the fish and chips, and it genuinely might be the best I’ve ever had, perfectly crispy, flaky fish, golden fries, and hands down the best tartar sauce I’ve ever tasted. It wasn’t an afterthought or just “on the side”; it elevated the entire dish and made it unforgettable.

The bar itself felt alive in the best way. There was a great buzz in the room lively without being overwhelming where you could feel the energy of people enjoying themselves, laughing, and settling in for a good day. It struck that perfect balance of being fun and welcoming without feeling chaotic.

What really tied the whole experience together was our waitress, Paige. She took incredible care of my sister and me from start to finish friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. She made us feel comfortable and welcome, and her service turned a great meal into a truly memorable experience.

Between the amazing food, the vibrant atmosphere, and Paige’s outstanding service, AJ’s Public House is a place I’d happily return to and recommend without hesitation.

First time here for a soccer game and had a great experience. Great sports bar with great wait staff. Our server was super awesome and took great care of everyone at our table. I liked that the place has an outdoor patio with TV stations in place. Great spot to enjoy games or just hang out with friends.
We tried the fish & chips, Shepard’s pie and firecracker fries. The food was really good and the serving portion was also good. Overall had a great experience and will be back again. If you are fan of soccer, this is the place to be.

Nice vibe. This sports bar has plenty of space for you and friends to catch a game and have a drink. Very attentive and friendly service. I appreciate that the menu offers options for vegetarians, but make no mistake this is a bar menu. My sandwich was a bit greasy, and the flavor was just ok. Worth a visit.

Man, I gotta say, I was really let down by A.J. Hudson’s. Dropped about $50 on dinner, ordered the fish & chips and a couple beers. The fish was soggy, not crispy like you’d expect, and the fries were limp and greasy. Service was slow too; had to flag down the server just to get a refill. For a spot that hypes up its pub grub, they sure missed the mark. Plenty of better joints in Lakeview to catch a game and grab a bite. Not planning on coming back here anytime soon.
