Social Profile:

Iconic Italian Restaurant and Pizza Joint in South Bend. In the 1950’s people on the street would watch pizza dough be tossed in the window at the original location in downtown South Bend. Pizza wasn’t the only thing on the menu, great pasta dishes were offered. Still owned and run by the same family, the hand tossed pizza and baked pasta dishes remain favorites along with other menu options for different palates.

Traditional pizza, pasta, sandwiches & other Italian staples served in a down-to-earth atmosphere.

Tried for the first time couple days ago, very good pizza. We’ll definitely be back. Update – we did go back and got another pizza, this time not so good. Definitely under cooked and oval shaped for some reason. The sauce under the cheese was lukewarm at best. You can tell the difference in the two pictures, the second one definitely wasn’t cooked long enough. Not trying to be picky but at $30 for a pizza you’d expect better.

Order 2 pizzas . I will ordered this pizza before I ordered the top chains. It was so good. I love the way it was cut in little strips. Plenty of sausage. And good taste. The crust was perfect. The sauce was great. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Lucked out at Lunch!!!

During a recent trip to the area for business, I found myself in a quandary. Many of the Restaurants that my lunch crew and myself like to visit were closed on Mondays. We went all the way from New Carlyle to the airport looking for a place to eat. One of the people in my group suggested Volcano, an Italian-Style eatery close to the airport. Off we went and luckily it was open. When I arrived, I went back in time a few decades, as this place has that older feel to it. Simplistically decorated but fully functional. We were fortunate enough to catch the tail end of lunch and were able to get seated right away. Once I perused the menu, our server suggested the Italian Beef sandwich with fries. I also got a side of gravy. Since we didn’t have a whole lot of time I was on point as the sandwich and the other items arrived fairly quickly. The Beef was tender and juicy, the bread fresh and all that gooey cheese made a very pleasant lunch. Give Volcano a shot, I will go back for dinner when I’m in the area again to try some other items, as it is known as a local favourite.

Visited yesterday while staying in town for business. This is a gem of a local restaurant which I love. I ordered the pasta mostaccioli, meatballs and extra garlic bread. Food was amazingly great for the price and will take me two days to eat it all. Also comes with a fresh salad. Servers and staff super nice. $31.00 for all this food…Thank you for a great meal and see you next time!

Very friendly staff-patient for first timers, excellent food, warm, comfortable atmosphere, they have booths and tables, alcohol, lemonade, and Coke products. Generous toppings on the pizza and tastes amazing!! Definitely worth a little more and the drive!!

Great place for lunch in South Bend. I had the Volcano Club, and it was excellent. Also, the prime rib dip with cheese and the lasagna are good choices. Never had a bad experience there, and food is very reasonable.

On Saturday 6/7/2025 I ordered a Hawaiian pizza to go, the person taking the order was very short with me. when I arrived the young lady at the counter acted like I was bothering her. No greeting very curt. she had forgotten to put order in. no apology. While there was not greeted or spoken to by anyone. [THIS WAS WHEN FIRST OPEN SURE NOT SWAMPED]. In years pass I had ordered and eaten many pizza here. always great experience had not been here for 6 years. PIZZA was terrible, crust not done pineapple little chunks pizza looked liked it had been poured not made. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Ordered my pizza like I had seen in a YouTube video I’d been watching. Only Volcano could get it perfect. The sausage was super delicious and the pizza crust was amazing. My dad and I enjoyed every bite.
