The Mediterranean Bakery & Deli was founded over 35 years ago as a pita bread bakery. Later, the bakery started offering imported Middle Eastern groceries that were unavailable anywhere else in the area. In time, it became Richmond’s first Mediterranean restaurant.
To meet a growing demand, the bakery and grocery store added ready-made Mediterranean food to its options. Today, you’ll find fresh baked goods, hard-to-get groceries, and hot deli items.
20 years ago, Jameel and Saba Abed bought the Mediterranean Bakery & Deli. With their many improvements, the shop has become the best Mediterranean food service in the Richmond area.
Middle Eastern deli specializing in house pita & pizza, plus sandwiches & other regional dishes.

I have been looking for good Fatayer for a long time and I finally found it. This grocery/food service was spectacular. The food was awesome and the service was just as good. Had all your Mediterranean food needs and the Baklava is ridiculously delicious. They carry pistachio and walnut.

I have been coming here on and off for over 20 years. My personal favorites are the mujadara and the fatayers. I have not gotten anything from this place that wasn’t absolutely delicious. Just went there again today to pick up lunch and dinner and was not disappointed. I plan to keep coming back. I do miss the dining-in option but everything else is top notch.

What a wonderful delight the Mediterranean Bakery & Deli is to experience! We just went wild picking different foods and had an impromptu picnic lunch on their outdoor table. Every sample was delightful, so much so we went back inside to get a “to go” order!
And the staff was so friendly and helpful, describing what we were looking at and helping augment with sauces. Just a terrific addition to the area.

Good products with authentic Mediterranean flavors. The baked goods and deli items are fresh and well made, and it’s a great spot to grab something quickly. Just keep in mind that this place is take-away only, not really set up for dine-in. Overall, a solid choice if you’re looking for quality Mediterranean items to go.

As soon as I opened the door, the aroma of cooked food was filled in the air. It smelled so good! It was almost 10 AM, the kitchen staff still preparing food for the hot display. The only thing that was ready were the Fatayers. I ordered a Chicken, a Beef, a Beef with Feta cheese, and a Spinach with Feta cheese. They were decent size. I couldn’t wait until I get home, so I pulled out the Beef Fatayer. The ground beef was seasoned perfectly, and the dough had the perfect consistency. It was delicious! I cannot wait to go back and try other food on their menu.
I don’t remember if there was any table to dine in, I don’t believe so. However the building was converted to a small convenient store filled with products that you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere.
They also offer fresh baked goods. The baklava was filled with crushed pistachios. Layers were flaky.
You have to check out the unique little shop / Deli yourself.

Officially obsessed. The nice gentleman who assisted me was extremely awesome to explain everything they had in the hot bar. Being a newbie to the establishment, I was guided along the hot bar and decided to get the kabob (SO GOOD), rice, tabouli salad, tzatziki, and pita chips. I brought home a spinach and feta pastry to eat later, and also 4 baklava to share with my family. I only spent $20!!! I will definitely be working this place into the rotation for lunch, everything was so fresh & delicious! I shoveled a baklava in my mouth before leaving the parking lot & don’t regret it one bit. The next time I come, I’ll bring home dinner!

Stopped in this afternoon, my first time, on a recommendation from my older brother. Ordered the following for take home: falafel, Hummus, spinach and feta pie, baba ghanoush, tabouleh, and two types of baklava. Was very impressed, everything I ordered was delicious. My favorites are the baba ghanoush and spinach and feta pie, tabouleh, and the baklava. Baba ghanoush had a deep lovely flavor. The tabouleh was fresh and bright and one of the best I have had. The baklava, awesome, just come try some for yourself and see! I will be back for more.

Overall best Arab food in RVA. I’ve had multiple catering orders from here, multiple quick lunches, sweets/baklava and grocery runs for unique items that aren’t as easy to find. The owners are great, as well as the entire staff. Please keep up this upper echelon level of quality and service !!! FYI- to all readers reluctant enough to run by this, the term middle east is a colonialism term, this is a Mediterranean bakery restaurant, or an Arab bakery, or even a western Asia bakery if you will. Enjoy.
