Blackhole Bakery is one of my favorite spots in KC!

It’s walk-in and carryout, and everything is consistently excellent -croissants that are actually flaky, mochi donuts with the perfect chew, and flavors that are dynamic and fun. Some of the flavor combos might sound a little obscure at first, but trust them and take a walk on the wild side… let your hair down, gurl!

Nothing here feels overhyped or gimmicky. Just really good pastries made by people who clearly know what they’re doing!

I leave happy every time and already planning my next visit because once you’re pulled into this black hole, there’s no escaping it!

Here’s the thing: I’m considering moving to KC— but I’ll never move to a city without a bakery that can produce a good puff pastry. It’s a must have for me. Black Hole has convinced me I can rest easy. The owner spoke to me a bit about KC (lovely conversation) and recommended me one of the best filled croissants I have ever had. The berries and cream. Tart, sweet, buttery, and flaky. I’m still thinking about it and it was nearly a week ago. Do yourself a favor and stop in.

Listen This Bakery is a must GO!!! Like now! It’s by far my favorite bakery! I don’t live close to the bakery but I make special trips! The employees treat you like Besties! (No Joke). There are great flavors! You won’t be disappointed! My only concern is that there should be more locations!

Nice. Second day here in a row. People were even nicer. 70$ in baked goods in 2 days! Keep it up! And the lady gave me two cream cheeses for my bagels. I’ll keep coming back if it’s like that! Spending more and more for polite service!

Loved it! Everything, literally everything, tastes amazing. Very fresh, very flavorful. Cannot recommend ENOUGH! We particularly enjoyed the pepperoni pizza bagel – it was airy and light, and the garlic herb cream cheese paired perfectly. The caramelized onion and goat cheese puff was ! You cannot pick anything wrong here.

There are some really cool creations behind the counter! The variety in pastries and flavors means that you can always fall in love with something new. There are pastries I’ve never seen before (looking at you Baja Blast mochi donut) that make it clear the bakers have put lots of thought into each item. Some of my favorites were the: milk and honey mochi donut (great control of sweetness), brioche cinnamon roll, mushroom spinach croissant (there’s a spice that I didn’t expect, but I’d happily have it again), and strawberry apricot danish.

Now, I can understand why BHB might not be for everyone.
1) You will not find a traditional donut here. The texture of the mochi donuts are chewy, moist, and dense – that might not be your style, but if you like mochi, you’ll like these!
2) If you want a simple and consistent menu, you probably need to look elsewhere. Some options will stay for a while, but every flavor or topping has the potential to be cycled out.
3) The service is efficient and polite, and no one has ever rushed me when I was pondering what to get. I have no problem with this at all!! But some folks might want a place where you get to develop a close relationship with the staff and other customers. BHB isn’t really meant for that – sometimes there’s just one person behind the counter and a long line of folks to help, so there isn’t time to chat. Also, there isn’t any seating here, so once you get your food, you’re out the door. This is convenient if you’re on the go, but you might want to know more about the place, people, and pastries.

Overall, I would recommend giving BHB a try – the pastries are indeed tasty and fresh, so you just might discover your new favorite bakery!

One of my favorite bakeries in Kansas City, the treats are delicious and the people behind the counters are warm. Great selection of savory or sweet treats with a constantly rotating menu. You’ll have to come often to try many of their delicious concoctions.

this place has amazing pastries! i got the blueberry croissant and a danish. i honestly haven’t had a pastry this good since my trip to france. in fact, the blueberry croissant tastes almost exactly like a pain aux raisins (just with blueberries instead of raisins of course). whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it right! highly recommend them. super friendly staff as well!

I visited Black Hole Bakery for the first time recently with a friend, and I will definitely be back! The atmosphere of the shop is space themed and fun and the guys behind the counter were upbeat and friendly.

Now about the goods. The pastries are some of the best I’ve experienced in the KC area. Inventive, aesthetic, and phenomenal in flavor and texture. The croissants rivaled any authentic French patisserie. The blueberry croissant was *chef’s kiss.* The plum galette was beautiful, featured wonderfully ripe, in-season plums, and had a surprise layer of almond paste underneath that really enhanced the flavor of the plums. I’m not a huge frosting person, so I ordered the one without icing—the orange mochi with a sugared exterior—on a whim, and holy wow!! Between the orange flavored sugar on the outside, to the perfectly crispy donut exterior and a delightfully chewy center with what I believe were candied orange peels?? inside made for a truly surprising burst of flavors that I have dreamed about since my last visit. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have had Blackhole Bakery on my must try list for far too long. It’s located nowhere near me, so the timing just hasn’t been right. My husband and I made it our mission last weekend, and by the skin of our teeth, we arrived with 45 minutes to spare. Luckily, there were still some delicious delectables waiting patiently with our names on them. We tried the pistachio tea cake (my fav), chocolate babka w/ oreo topping, a blueberry croissant, sticky buns, and definitely not planned, but a delightful surprise for later, the garlic bread, in which we made some of the most incredible italian sandwiches later that night for dinner. Everything was exactly like I knew it would be, thoughtful, flavorful, and beautiful. You definitely feel the love in every bite! Great service guys! I promise not to wait so long in returning.
